Eagles Slow In Building Year, Drop To Eighth ln NWKL The Eagles' under the coaching of Jay McGaughey, fell to eighth in the North- west Kansas League along with Atwood. Colby lost five regulars through graduation last year, so this was a building year for the team. ln the first game of the season the Eagles downed the Atwood Buffaloes 38 to 33. Colby's hopes fell when Hoxie defeated the Eagles 65 to 56. The bad luck lasted and the next game was dropped to Norton. In the St. Francis game Boyd Evans played for W the first time sincean early football season in- jury, but Colby failed to rate the win column. The following seven games were all lost, putting Colby at the bottom of the league stand- mgs. The curse was broken ln the eleventh game and Colby won over St Francis 66 to 58 PICTURED The tlde turned agam and the Eagles fell to ABQVE Coaches Oakley and Oberlin Mccaughey and The B team, coached by Don Clement, fm Clement :shed the season with a flve wln and nlne loss record Nlckel Tom Hamill Coach Clement FRONT ROW P I-Iarnson B Mcllnay D Burcham T Thompson S Ramey D Pl'lllllPS 27 COLBY A TEAM, BACK ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT: Coach McGaughey, B. Perhaps the highlight of the entire year for some students was the opening of the long awaited Teen Canteen. Sponsored by the Junior Women's League and located in the basement of the Overman building downtown, the canteen was not directly connected with the school, but it was appreciated by all high school and junior high students. Variety is the keynote of winter activities. New events during the winter included a Kayette sponsored baby contest and the opening of the Teen Canteen. Sports fans were given a doubly exciting treat as basketball and wrestling seasons got underway. F.F.A. and F .H.A. ended the flurry of the Christmas season's activities with the formal Snowball. il Then it was time for semester finals and school activities were subdued for a week of hard study, as students learned thethings they really need to remember. X- UQ -s 26 Winner of the Kayette sponsored baby contest was Tim Hamill. Voters made their choice by patying a penny a vote with all procee s going to CARE.
