The Colby Eagles, under Don Clement, got off to a flying start and finished the season with an 8-won, I-lost record to take second place in the league. Ably assiting Mr. Clement were .lay McGaughy and Beuford Haizlip. The Eagles defeated the Almena Coyotes 3l to 6 and beat the Garden City Buffaloes I9 to 6 in the first and only non-league games. ln the first league game of the season, Colby downed Oberlin 20 to l4. The only scorers were Bob Bosler and Dave Phillips. Bosler's conversions were good on the last two touchdowns. In the second league game Colby winged past Hoxie for a 33 to 7 win. Scoring were Dick Williams, Bob Bosler, Ed Brown, and Dave Phillips. Bosler made three of the extra points. Top tacklers were Tom Thompson, Bob Bosler, Phil Harrison, and Dave Phillips. ' Q ' The fifth straight wincame when Colby . defeated Atwood 35 to l4. Dave Phillips made two touchdowns and Bob Bosler, Dick Williams, and Tom Hamill each made one. Bosler scored all five of the extra points. Ron Brown and Jim Parrot made five tackles each. N Norton was defeated 2l to O. Dick Williams made 4 the touchdowns and Bob Bosler kicked the extra points. The Eagles defeated the Oakley Plainsmen 48 to 6 to remain undefeated in six games. Dick Williams made four of the six-pointers. Tim Hamill and Ed Brown scored six points each. Bob Bosler made six conversions. Colby com- piled 375 yards against Oakley. The Saint Francis lndians bowed to the Colby Eagles 32 to 9 for the Eagle's sixth league win. Top scorers were Tom Hamill, Dick Williams, and Bob Bosler. Top tacklers were Bill Watt and Harold Herbel . The first loss of the season came when the tough Goodland Cowboys defeated the Eagles l4 to O, ending Colby's chances for first in the league.
