Future Farmers K and Future Homemaker The Future Farmers of America exists today clue to a coo erative spirit and a desire on the part of farm boys from l4 to 2l years of age, preparing for farming through vocational ag- riculture, to have a national organization of their own in which the might secure practical business experience. They act as their own instructors and en'oy the fellowship of one another. Improved agriculture, better local communities, more satisfying farm home life, and a development of more efficient farm citizens are the goals of this national organ- ization, and this is just what the Colby Chap- ter tries to accomplish each year. Under the leadership of Nelson Toburen, president, and Mr. Cunningham, sponsor, the Colby Chapter has been working toward these aims through their activities and agricultural training. Among the many activities in which they participated during the year are the con- tests, a Cparent-son banquet, Christmas carol- ing, an the Snowball Formal. Impossible? Cf course it isn'tl That is, according to Elwood P. Dowd it isn't. You see, Elwood's closest and best friend is Harvey, a six-foot white rabbit, visible only to him. Harvey is what you might call a pooka and seems to have the strange power of seeing into the future. Elwood and Harvey get along fine but everyone else seems to think that--well, you knowl Even Elwood's sister, Veta Louise Simmons, seems to be against him. She has tried so hard to raise her daughter, Myrtle Mae, in the manner that all daughters should be raised and, of course, this rabbit is making it a very difficult problem. Elwood shows up at the most un- expected moments with Harvey--for instance, the Wednesday Forum meeting--and this usually ends Veta's attempts to interest the young men in Myrtle Mae. P1-Hy Veta and Myrtle Mae finally decide to commit poor Elwood to Chumley's Rest--a sanitarium for mental patients. As Veta tells her story to the young Doctor Sanderson he comes to the conclusion that it is not Elwood who needs to be committed to the sanitarium, but that it is Veta herself who should be committed. Neptune's Kingdom was the setting for the Junior-Senior prom May 4 in the high school gym. As the guests entered the underwater kingdom, they walked down the dock and through the gateway into an elaboratel decorated room. King Neptune was present to assist the guests as they stepped into his kingdom. With many species of sea-lite, dangling from the fish-net ceiling, the ocean's depth was realistically created. Table decorations consisted of wax fish, Neptune's castle, treasure chest booklets, and fish nutcups. Two glowing eyes of an enormous octopus centerpiece greeted the guests as they stepped into the kingdom. After the banquet, which was served by gaily dressed pirates, Steve Blain, master of ceremonies, introduced the honorary parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. McClelland, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald C. Stover. The program began with Lynn Washburn giving the welcome followed by Mike O'Neil giving the response. Several numbers by the Boy's Octet concluded the program.
