Sophiades The staff with the fluttering blue and gold ribbons pauses over a girl, then gently taps her on the shoulder. The hushed auditorium resounds with our applause as another of our classmates is tapped for Sophiades, Coker’s honorary scholastic society. New members are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and contribution to college life. Only one- sixth of the senior class and one-half of the eligible juniors may be admitted. Suphiades gives awards annually for the best student re- search work and creative work. These students are selected for this honor by the faculty and the senior class. Scholarship, leadership, and contribution to college life are the outstanding characteristics for which these girls are chosen.
