CURSUS HCNCRUM- SENIOR CLASS HISTCRY In September, 1936, a new member appeared in the family of Cohoes High School. By Roman law it was the privilege of the family to accept or reject this new member. It was finally decided to accept the infant because of its apparent good health and the look of wisdom on its brow. Great progress was made in the first few months and signs of greatness began to appear. At this critical period in our career Mrs. Grace H. Ryan was appointed our dictator for life-the life of the Class of 1940. Having supplied ourselves with stylus, papyrus and books, we decided to follow the old Roman idea of learning something of the practical matters of government. So we elected Marjorie Sherwood consul, Katherine Doyle pro-consul, Charles Audette scribe, and William Waterhouse quaestor ftreasurer, to youj. We ended our first year in true Roman fashion,-with a feast-our class picnic. After the period of trial of our freshman year, we donned the green and white togas of manhood and became active members of C. H. S. society. We started filling the public coffers by selling candy at the games, Again we had to decide on our officers, so we elected Consul Marjorie Sherwood, Pro-consul Grace McGlynn, Quaestor Jane Procak, and Scribe William Waterhouse. During the third stage in our education, known as our junior year, we showed a remarkable interest in business affairs and money-making UQ-QPage Mrs. Ryanj. First we elected the following ofiicers: Peter Dahoda, consul, Matthew McCarthy, pro-consul, Marjorie Sherwood, quaestor, and Connie Ciemiega, scribe. Next we started to work on our Junior Prom. Matthew McCarthy and Alberta MacArthur were co-chairmen. It was a huge success and we were now formally accepted by society. After a two months' vacation we came back ready to take up the role of being aristocratic patricians. Our first task was to elect new officials to lead us through our most important year. We chose Dorothy Jamison to lead us on this final expedi- tion, Matthew McCarthy to assist her, Dorothy Robinson to superintend the now overflowing coffers of the state, and Connie Ciemiega to take notes on our perfectly conducted class meetings. We then set to work at a task every class of seniors must face, the subjugation of that barbarous horde, the freshmen. Having accomplished this with only a few casualties, we went ahead with our plans for the Christmas activities. Christmas vacation did much to give us that extra pep we needed to put over our Senior Ball. The Ball went over with a bang and we now look forward to our greatest Roman holiday, Class Day, and to graduation. These two events will constitute our final triumphal march before the lower classes of C. H. S. ----- 'cWc'rc 19410 me-are-n MM
