ALFHILDE FISHEK We, the Class of 1966, dedicate this “Chief- tain” to a person who has always been willing to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. As a result of this person's great zest and enthusiasm, we have become a closely knit family of classmates. We feel that we have accomplished a great deal during our high school years and we believe that this person is largely responsible for our success. Therefore, to you, Mrs. Fisher, we dedicate our 1966 “Chieftain.’’ 4 APPRECIATION MR. JAMES DAVTC: This “Chieftain” could not have been compiled without the loyal assistance of a certain member of the faculty. Many long, tedious hours have been spent compiling this publication. This person has given freely of his time, his effort and his patience in insur- ing that all our deadlines were met. The Class of 1966 extends its appreciation to you, Mr. Davis, for being our yearbook advisor. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Senior Class would like to take this oppor- tunity to thank our school and all those affiliated with it, including the Board of Education, teachers, school work- ers, and the citizens of the community who have made the past 13 years more profitable for us. Once again, we would like to thank all of you for making these years at Cohocton Central School most memorable. bm BOARD OF EDUCATION SEATED: Myron Crouch, Gerald Hoover, Victor Sick, Alice Rector. STANDING: Ed- win Saxton, Norbert Kramer. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE The world must have people who are willing to pay the price. The task ahead is to broaden our knowledge of the world about us, to seek the truth, question the questionable, and to be able to evaluate what has to be done with all resources available, to treat all with a sincere de- sire to understand and not pre-judge on hearsay, or the image projected. Be flexible and not rigid in decisions that vary according to circumstance. Be firm after due consideration. Above all, once the decision is made, take the responsi- bility for having made such a decision. Lawrence J. Dunn 8 Lawrence Dunn, Principal; W. Merle Wheaton, Vice-Principal MRS. Bath, New York Rt. 15 West of Bath New York CLASS HISTORY Once upon a time in September, 1953, thirty-one little bundles of joy began their journey through the halls of the palace, C. C. S. The names were recorded in the register as: J. Avery, T. Carey, N. Stephans, B. Lippincott, S. Burritt, K. Sick, E. Vose, J. Zurlick, C. Fairbrother, J. Sick, E. Schneider, E. Schneider, S. Fleishman, J. Fleishman, M. Isaac, J. Howe, D. Azzi, V. Norton, R. Kennedy, A. Mehlenbacher, R. Wheaton, S. Mattoon, P. Johnson, D. Edmond, P. Hendley, C. Mehlenbacher, G. Pack, E. Cragg, R. Cyr, S. Baker, M. Burns. As time went by, the dream of becoming Seniors gradually came into view and we reach- ed the second floor of the cherished palace. This first year was an entirely different experience for us but under the leadership of our Lord-overseer, Mrs. Fisher, everything turned out fine. Ron Wheaton led the clan with Tom Carey second in command, Cathy Mehlenbacher keeping the records, and Marie Isaac control- ling the purse strings. The Beatnik Bop added a substantial amount of money to the purse. As Sophomores, we maintained the same slate of officers. The palace was changed into the Peppermint Lounge for one evening. This dance and Project Swing brought in record amounts for the class. Clair Fairbrother took over the leadership in the Junior year with James Strobel to as- sist and the two faithful girls to keep the records and finances straight. On Friday, November 13th, the Juniors began a new endeavor. At the Ghoul's Gathering' , five new faces appeared with a coffin, singing and calling themselves the The Immortals . The grand palace turned into a beautiful South Sea island as the night of May 7th became Some Enchanted Evening . Joseph Perry and Elaine Cragg reigned as King and Queen of our island. We also tried our acting talents by presenting They Went Thataway . Our purse really began to bulge, as all of our endeavors were great successes. In our Senior year, we elected Ron to lead with Kathy Jo Burns, Julia Fleishman and Marie Isaac to assist him. We started our final year with the sale of magazine subscriptions and candy. Our dance, The Thing , also added to the finances for that trip to Detroit and the Great Lakes. It has been work but it is well worth it and we will never forget those wonderful years. 89 OUR YEAR THE THING” The IMMORTALS performed at our first Senior dance, Friday, November 13, 1965. _ 300 CANDY SALE o Our class had a goal of $1600 for our magazine drive. We sur- passed that goal and sold $1699.44 worth of magazines. We made a pro- fit of $659. 92. We feel we were suc- cessful and hope next year's class does as well. During this year's candy sale, we sold 643 boxes. Out of this we received a profit of $243. 00. Although this was not as large a profit as from the magazine drive, it added to our treasury to make possible our Senior trip. FINIS Years have passed Since we first came. Yet, much today seems the same. Knowledge surely has its expense: Time, tears and sense. School years are now of the past. Memories now are all that last. Memories of old-time friends. Memories that shall never end. And now upon our departing. We leave this Chieftain To those just starting. Although one end has come. Many more have not yet begun.
