FO REWO RD We, the members of the Chieftain staff, have attempted to portray life on Cohocton Central School's campus -- the smiling faces in the corridor, the serious mood in classes, and all the things which have made our stay in high school such an important and satisfying part of our lives. lt is our hope that this book will serve as an aid to your memories. As, in years to come, you take the '61 Chieftain from yourbook- shelf and leaf through it, you will smile as you recall those happy days. Yet, as you close the back, prior to putting it back on the shelf, we are almost sure, that you will feel a little more certain of which things in life are really worth While. If we can help to keep alive this inspiration, aswell as the memories of good times, we will have accomplished our purpose. CONTENTS ADMINISTRATICN SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ACTIVITIES ATHLETICS ADVERTISING 8-I2 I4-I8 20-28 30-36 38-44 48-62 MEMORI M James Richard Cragg was born on September 16, 1943, to Mr. and Mrs. Gorden Cragg of Cohocton, New York. DEDICATIO We as members of the Senior Class of Cohocton Central School Wish to dedicate this, the 1961 Chieftain, to Mr. Donald Anderson. His cheerful spirit, knowledge of mathematics and readiness to help, eased the problems of many a student. One of his sayings O.K., D.A. will slide from the tongues of many a student reminding them of a great teacher Whose motto, Do the best you can, will always be remembered. ALMA MATER ALMA MATER Far' above Conhocton'S Waters, 'Neath the sky of blue Proudly stands our Alma Mater Faithful, loyal, true. Holroyd. Mrs. Holroyd, a resident of Dansville, is the present Home Economics teacher in our school. In 1957, even though overburdened with duties as Homemaking teacher, Mrs. Holroyd willingly took the position of class advisor for our class. Since then she has led us through many difficult imes. We the Class of 1961 greatly appreciate the help and attention given us by her. HISTORY In nineteen forty- eight, twenty-six students walked into school for the first time. It Was not only the first time for them, it was the first time for a kindergarten class in Cohocton Central School. The students were as follows: Gene Bolster, Robert Azzi, Vernon Flint, Michael Hamilton, Phillip Hickey, William Mehlenbacher, Thomas Miller, Robert O'Leary, Francis Perry, Edward Rauber, George Waite, Roger Wager, Gale White, Robert Wise, David Zimmer, Judy Adams, Dawn Avery, Virginia Cragg, Carol Fairman, Georgia Hendley, Elizabeth Sauerbier, Eileen Ann Schneider, Barbara Sick, Daryl O'Brien, Judy Deming, and Mary Towner. Gradually time went on, and in nineteen fifty-seven, thirty students graduated from the eighth grade into high school. Here the class carried on many activities, among these were, the Freshmen Frolic, Sophomore Hop, the Junior Prom and the Magazine Drive where they made the highest goal ever reached in the history of Cohocton Central School. Now the Class is getting ready for the final jump to graduation. It has been a long climb but the end is near. So as each of us prepare to take a separate path in life we fondly say farewell to the beloved halls of C.C.S. As we looked in the fourth grade. 5 'fliw ilk yy an 'M N N W JU IGRS BOTTOM HOW, Left to Right: J. Moore, S. Melhenbacher, B. Burke, D. Edmonds, T Kunz, L. Sick, D. Zimmer, R. White, B. Saurbier, A. Gay Japanese lan- terns and Wind chimes hung from blossoming cherry trees and floral chandeliers cast a soft light on the dancers. The royal throne beside a miniature lake was the scene of the coronation as Jacqueline Kanaval Uac- queline Flintb was crowned queen and William Mehlenbacher became the reigning king. Virginia Royce and Judy Adams were selected as attendants to the queen. 30 ATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY NATIO NAL HONOR SOCIETY Ex 'Z Z!!
