He taught the value of hard work and with his unending encouragement and subtle discipline, he compelled us to strive for the best. For all his love, devotion, patience and concern for each of us as individuals, we are eternally grateful and shall forever hold him close to our hearts. His departure from CHS saddened us all. With fond- ness and deepest appreciation, we, the Class of ' 87, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Di. GAMES Life is a game. We are challenged by its trials and tribulations. We are enter- tained by its antics and escapades. We agonize over losses and rejoice over wins. But the true fulfillment lies not in winning, but in playing the entire game. We all face challenging stages in the game, but we make it. And we, the Class of ' 87, have made it — together. Senior Class Officers Pat O ' Connor Chris Conant The Class of ' 87 greatly appreciates the efforts of its officers. Thanks for all the time you put in to ensuring that Senior year was the BEST it could be. 6 N T N F c N T R S T • E E w ■H V E T E N 7 RICHARD DOUGLAS AINSLIE POWER. Mr. O ' Neil, Language Dept. ' Well, back in Canada rresistible Snaggles 117 DISCO INFERNO One day. while in the green green forest. I heard a pair of voices, singing and laughing heartily. I immediately recognized these voices to be those of none other than my own old classmates and idols, Lenny and Chumbley. I followed hehind them, trying not to be seen. They traveled for hours, deeper and deeper into the ever-darkening forest. Finally, they came upon a clearing. They looked around and saw nothing. But suddenly, as if from nowhere, a man, shrouded in mist and garbed in full plate mail appeared. Who are you? said the mighty Lenny. The armored man drew his terrible broadsword and swiftly snapped open the visor on his great helm to reveal an infinitely goofball face! He spake unto them t h u sly: Fear me, for I an the watcher of the gate to the abyss, the guardian of the door to Hell itself. I am Dennis, the devil ' s advocate! And one heck of an S.O.B., I ' ll bet! , added Chumbley. Without a word, Dennis motioned for them to follow him into the pit which suddenly appeared at his command. They all jumped in, and 1 followed them without any concern of what lay below. All went black. I awoke in a large, torch-lit room. Lenny. Chumbley and Dennis all stood around me and helped me up. We were in some kind of lob- by as was apparent from the tell-tale lounge chairs and stacks of various magazines. In the corner stood Stephanie Fndris, Diane Mascart, Frin Picton Quinn, and Nancy Lincoln all waiting for their turn. I soon noticed a large door of bronze. Guarding it stood two huge Titans wielding war hammers. I soon recognized these guards to be Saadia Bryant and Greg Christenson. Dennis opened wide the massive doors, and I was amazed at what lay beyond. As we walked through, the searing heat of what we now fully realized to be Hell sent us sprawling backwards. Dennis passed through unaffected. After we regained ourselves, we saw that we were on the shore of a vast river. A small raft was floating on the water, with a single, cloaked and hooded man on board. As we approached the ferry, the man outstretched a bony hand and said, Give me a coin of gold and I shall take you o ' er the river, Styx, in my boatie. Dennis tossed a coin to whom I now recognized as my old, but now skeletal friend, Bill Lean. We stepped on board and started across, at an alarmingly swift rate. As we crossed, I noticed Wally and Ned attempting to surf unsurfably tiny waves. The true Surf-rat (Chris Robinson) was right behind them riding on a huge tsunami, lashing down at them with a long, spiked bullwhip. Behold, Wally and Ned ' s eternal punishment for impersonating surfers, said Dennis. As Barnacle Bill brought her about, we saw Sue Riley and Lisa Clinton in their eternal struggle to keep their badly wounded schooner afloat. Dennis explained that in life, they blatantly disobeyed strict boating code by refusing legal right of way to the good ship Hooligan. Bill rammed them with our now immense raft, with fervent delight. As we neared the shore, we beheld a most gruesome sight. Tracy Zaslow, Marlisa Clapp, and Megan Manion layed on the beach, sun- ning themselves for all eternity under the hellishly hot sun . . . but WITHOUT LOTION! I swooned. As we passed the three, Dennis tauntingly dangled a bottle of Bain deSoleil just out of their reach. Suddenly, a familiar voice boomed, freezing us in our tracks, Good morning, said John Dockray over the loudspeaker, today is Thursday, June 7, day 2. The word of the day is DAMNATION. Rudy interrupted, The library will be closed today periods 4 and 5. Also, will Christine Buckley, Robby Manns, Beelzebul, Meredith Deveney, and Jeff Lloyd please report to realm 8. A set of stairs going down led us into an infinitely long, rough-hewn hallway, with myriad doorways on either side. Through the first door was a room in which sat Maureen O ' Leary, Sarah Dickerman, and Maria Cahill. These three were possessed by the Arch Daemon, Snaggle, and brought down here, said Dennis laughingly. We proceeded on and after a few minutes, we noticed some indistinguishable sound growing louder and louder as we walked on. Finally, we came to the source room. As we entered, our ears were immediately attacked by a grotesque melee of the golden voices of Jim Nabors and Barry Manilow. We saw Jenna Emmons, Mark McMannus, and Sandra Dunn chained to the wall in eternal tor- ment. We swooned, then continued on. Suddenly, from a door a few yards behind us, burst Dan Kierce, in full combat fatigues, leading a ragtag crew of rebels consisting of Kim Hunt, Katie Walsh, Sarah Barrow, Paulina Rosano, and Lee Lacks. It ' s Dennis, the devil ' s advocate! Kierce exclaimed when he saw our cringing guide. Seize him! Before they were upon us, we dashed off as fast as we could, little realizing that we had fallen into a seemingly bottomless chasm. After a couple of days, we struck the ground with great force. All was dark and a fetid vapour filled the chamber. Uh oh, Dennis looked worried, this place is for serious sinners. A little farther on, by the east wall, was a slightly illuminated figure. We approached and were relieved to find it was our former classmate, Karin Anglin. However, upon closer inspection, we were horrified to see she was a disgusting cross-breed, possessing Glen Bernstein ' s nose and Todd Henry ' s middle name. We all swooned. When we awoke, the creature was gone but the rancid fumes had risen to neck level. Strange footsteps neared and we saw a distant head bobbing up and down in the mist. Good gravy! exclaimed Dennis, It ' s Higgy the Wanderer, roamer of Hades, spreader of the Hell essence! And always behind the Wanderer comes Mary McElroy, the Torturer with her huge double-edged axe to torment Higgy to a non-life of endless and senseless wandering. At such an image, we all swooned. We awoke to find ourselves in the opening of a large dining hall, lined with tables and chairs. Being famished, we happily entered the kitchen. Behind the counter, we recognized chef Jason Proodian preparing the Poor Man ' s Lasagna (Hell ' s only dish) and his five serving wenches: Leanne Ward, Anne McKenna, Nancy Yeomans, Cindy Nickerson, and Stacy Cullinane. They were all content. On our way out, we noticed Wayne Warren Young selling Klondike bars, half-melted by the intense Hades heat. We all bought one and left. We traversed for hours down a fairly steep slope, strange Hellish sights all around. We caught a glimpse of an eternal sword duel bet- ween Lisa Gallagher and Taylor Tibbetts. Lisa seemed to be winning. We also noticed the haunched, depressed figures of Eric Maki, Lisa Shumaker, and Cindy Bell and wanted to stop, but Dennis warned, No, you don ' t want to go in there! Eric Maki and his supporters are being punished for buying ballots by being subjected to John Hoyler ' s eternal presidency. Further down, the walls ended revealing a vast underworld lake, about a mile wide. Our attention was immediately drawn to a large triple masted galley flaunting the Jolly Roger. At the bow stood Carl Becker and his merry crew consisting of Joe Walters, George Jackson, John Scott, and Mike Greiner. We boarded a large dingy docked near us on the shore manned by seven punished souls: Mary Leonard, Kerri Rhodes. Nicole Pris- ble, Elizabeth Williams, Kathy Haase, Kathy Fries, and Kristen Contis. Welcome aboard, Mr. Walsh. Nicole said, demonically, taking a long, deep puff of her cigar. The others followed suit. You shouldn ' t smoke, girls, Dennis advised. We pulled up to a smokey dock at the base of a huge cliff. In a cave in the rock face was John Currier neck deep in Marlboro 100 ' s smoking 6 cigarettes at once. Dennis explained that it was John ' s duty to keep the Hellfires eternally lit. It was because of our fascination with John that we nearly fell into a pit of boiling vomit in which swam many half human-half fish creatures struggling to stay afloat. We saw ones that very closely resembled Chippy Chapman, Chris Conant, Sean Corkery, Larry Desmond. Phe, Jeff Lydon, Donald Mulligan. Patty-O, Harry Pierotti. and Chantalle Stone. Now and again. Phe would manage to beach himself and shout obscene limericks about the Wanderer. Corker. Hoga, Conant, and Pierotti seemed to be swimming near the bottom desperate- ly searching for Moo-Moo. After witnessing that terrible spectacle, we entered into Beachwood (only a small fragment is in the real world) and Dennis walked away, and we followed. Soon, we heard the sound of large wings flapping overhead. We looked up and saw Suzy Camardo, Toni Cann. Mel Shea. Nicole Gamst. and Silly Sally Hurtig flying above us in circles. They had been transformed into Succubi. With a quick motion of his hand. Dennis made them disperse. With a shriek as loud and horrible as the laugh of Jill Shockman, they sped away in terror. We entered a house, in which sat Liam Stanford, being forced to solve differential equations and add fractions by Juggernauts. Jeff Soltesz and Jeff Hartwell. Poor LeeYAM ... he did precious little, and now he must pay. We closed the door, despite Buddah ' s cry for a slide rule. Dennis opened another door to reveal a large room containing two racks. This is the room where Deanna Joseph and Jill Harrington should be . . . but I guess they ' re skipping. He closed the door, and we walked on. Through the street drove Liz Zadel in a pickup with 4 flat tires. In the back sat Beth Wagner and Kim Pattison, trying to drink coffee while driving over the Hellishly bumpy roads. We walked through the streets and came upon a tunnel of some sort. As we walked down, we heard a muffled noise. Dennis opened a door to the left revealing Dave Richards, John Reidy, and Caitlin Staunton sitting on the floor of 2 rooms, listening in horror to Nick McDonough playing a grossly untuned Fendoid Strat copy guitar. Nick once was playing his guitar, explained Dennis, and he hit upon a riff so intense that Mephistopholes himself was summon- ed through the amplifier, and dragged him down. We left this sorry sight (and sound) and continued down the tunnel. We walked for days down and down still deeper. Finally, we came to a large room, in which stood Wendy Esposito. I shall ask you a riddle. bellowed Wendy. If you answer if correctly, you will be granted entrance. And if we answer incorrectly? I inquired. Then I will devour you! yelled the infernal Wendy-Jo. Well, let ' s hear it then. said Dennis. Okay, said she, what is it that has wheels and flies? She handed us a ticket of some sort. We approached the portal where Maureen Farren checked our ticket, and then opened the door. We entered the room to behold the most ghastly sight yet. The flame in this room was redder than the hair of Tracy Lowenhagen and an evil stench was all about. There stood Satan himself, looming over all of us. He was 100 feet tall and had three heads. In each of his mouths was a different sinner, being devoured eternally. In the first mouth was Bob O ' Connell, the false god. In the second mouth was Fred Willshire, the false senior. In the third and final mouth was the guy who didn ' t get Lenny a Secret Santa gift. Lenny laughed. Dennis laughed. We all laughed. After watching for a while, we grew bored and left. Dennis showed us out, and myself and my two companions were once again in the real world. Great guns! , I exclaimed. All of our classmates except us are in Hell! En Contraire. Durk! . responded Chumbley. As I recall, I didn ' t see Erin Lindsey down there! We laughed and sang as we walked back to town to tell of our great adventure. 120 PATRONS SPONSORS The Class of ' 87 Thanks . . .
