Taking Mr. Davis ' place in the announcers stand is sportscaster Casey Coleman and wife, Tina, a familiar couple about town. As the players warm up for the big game. Kandy Martin, newly elected president of the Boosters Club, is getting things ready for the crowning of the coveted Homecoming Queen award. Looking up at the stands, I see many members of our outstanding class — Tom and Charlene Jones, holding hands; Paul and Sue Neagle, new owners of Curtis Compact; Cathv and Bob Cotter with their fifteen chil- dren; siamese twins Patsy and Bobby Byrnes, and Margaret and Kay Benedict. Success hasn ' t changed our Gary Ainslie a bit. Cheryl Tibbetts is signaling us but nothing can be heard: probably due to the loud chatter of Linda Blair, Ann Maree, and Fred Troy. 1 hear that Sharon Campbell is here, but no one seems to be able to see her. In case of accident, numerous nurses are on hand — Martha Duggan and Stephanie Brundige from the Ripley Road Nursing Home, and Michele White, Karen Smith, Nancy Damon and Lynda Gogill all from the Cohasset Knoll. Joanne Gile. a well-known artist, and Keith Codding- ton just drove up on their Honda 50 ' s, leaving Sam Lincoln, president of Beechwood As- sociates, and his Mercedes in the dust. Several class members called in to say that they would be unable to be here today. Among them are Ed Wall, who is still cleaning up from last night ' s reunion; Amy Hollingshead, also detained because of last night ' s party; Lyn Congdon, because it ' s against her religion ; Donna Block, because she ' s cheering for Hull ' s team; Michael Healey, who is a guerilla fighter in South Am erica; Leah Whipple, who is visiting Paul Middelmann in South Africa; Sue Stoughton, who is home sick; John Longo, who is on his way to Marshfield; Joe McGrath, who is campaigning with wife Betsey; and Bob Dutton, who is away. Several members of our class have finally put Cohasset on the map with their great suc- cess stories. For instance, Kathv Cashin, Star of the smash hit, Funny Girl is here with the Co-star of The King and I, Tim Carlson. David Lehr, author of Boy, Was I Red! , is busy signing autographs. Supreme Court Judge, Michael Smith is discussing the good ' ol days with police chief, Robert Rechner. Jane Souther is being commended for her new position as Dean of Women at Tufts University. Jce O ' Donnell is fighting off dozens of swooning girls after the release of his tenth golden alLum. And finally, we have Lesley Ripley, Metropolitan Opera singer, who has promised to sing for us during half time. The field of sports is well represented here today. Olympic star, Holly White, is here .along with the winner of the men ' s downhill. Mark Timpany, and the Women ' s Open star Pam Hobbs. We also have the expected winner of the open golf tournament, Harry Hanlon, and track stars, Eric Aroner and Kevin Farrell. In addition. I can see Bill McDonald, able coach of the fantastic Boston Bruins, (who also recently bought Whitehead Beach to avoid further disturbances), with several of his team players — Gene Graham, Barney Robin- son, Greg Kramer, and the only female hockey player in the world, Mary Ellen Cifrino, Michael Greene, star spectator, has also broken a few records. Debbie Bartlett, who has maintained her nickname all these years, is heading the refresh- ment committee, aided by Sue Howarth and Bill Woomer, whose specialty is sliced chicken sandwiches with no lettuce. Janet Shannon is STILL collecting ads! People from all over town have showed up to watch the game and join in the festivities. Representing West Corner are William Nickerson, Mike Emanuello, Steve Kent, and Janice Nardo, who are holding up a banner reading Lokie ' s for Fine Food. Judy Eman- uello, Joanne Dini and Dottie Anderson used their remaining stamped pink passes to skip today ' s festivities, but Mary Calorio, film star decided to come for awhile. Ku Rogers and Charles Maloney, instructors at Vic Tanney ' s, appear to be enjoying the stares of the admiring cheerleaders. Ann Grinnell, who opened up her OWN casual corner, and Dale Edminster. who owns the chain of ORIGINAL Casual Corners, are busy discussing the cloth- ing business, while Deboral Duncan keeps insisting that tobacco picking is much more profitable. We have a full and varied agenda of entertainment organized for half-time. Kris Jones is going to do a whistling solo; a few members of the New York Philharmonic — Danny Brennock, Bonnie Keegan, and Dana Simeone — are going to entertain us; Nancy Yocum, holder of the New England Award in baton twirling, is going to give us a demonstration; Ron Goodwin is going to show us some of his latest artistic masterpieces; and Mark Cifrino, Mr. Universe is going to bend steel in his bare hands and leap a few high buildings in a single bound. Also scheduled are a few lectures — Mary Ellen Martin, who is still at- tending classes for speech, is going to talk on foreign affairs, and Debbie Johnsen is going to give us a run down on her secret work at Cards Shards. We also have various awards to be presented to those members of the class who have excelled in a particular area. Pre- senting the awards are James Benji Louie Watson, owner of our local hardware store, and Long Tall Sally Day, New York model. The first award goes to Denise Dolan for the amaz- ing feat of changing her hair color forty-two times in one week! The Old Man and The Sea award goes to none other than Dean Williams. The science award goes to Mary Jo McCormick for making many scientific contributions while researching at Babson College, and the last award goes to Hans Ekman for the courage and will power it took to leave all those Swedish beauties to come to our reunion. Among our late comers are Diane Williams, governess for the governor; Christine and Jerry Pattyson; John Sadler, Spanish professor at Haivard College; Richard Andrews and Fred Koed, co-owners of the South Shore Sports Car Lot; and Dave Mitchell, orthodontist. Just a few last minute announcements before the game begins; make-up for the Home- coming Queen and her cour t was done by Dianne Talarico, cosmetic coordinator, and cars are being supplied courtesy of Ken Thayer Associates, The Terry Tilden Corp., and Dave Clark Chevrolet. It was a pleasurable reward for a long hard season that began in March, with several members working out with weights and running in the new gym. The early preparation paid off as Cohasset trackmen dominated league competition, including Co- capt. Gary Ainslie in the 100 and the broad jump: Joe O ' Donnell and Capt. Keith Coddington in the 440; Mike Greene in the mile; Eric Aroner and Kevin Farrell in the mile; Paul Neagle in the 220; and Drew Quigley in the shot put. The team also performed extremely well in the class D State Championships. With several seniors going on to collegiate competition, coach Davis is left with a nucleus of promising junior and sophomore track stars: (hopefully) 102 Tennis Grinz Dale School 1st 2nd 3rd 6-1 5-2 4-3 Marshfield won won won 7-0 5-2 6-1 Hanover won won won 4-3 6-1 7-0 Duxburv won won won SCOREBOARD Golf Cheering Top: Capt. Ill Thoughts From Mel If I had to find one word to describe my A.F.S. year in Sydney, Australia — well, I couldn ' t do it. This past year has been exciting, fun, meaningful, terribly amusing, sometimes very sad and even depressing, but certainly very strengthening. There are a lot of things which I will always remember — the surf and landing in some poor, unsuspecting boy ' s arms when I tried it out; kangaroo shooting; being ridden around the school on shoulders; getting ready for my school ' s first dance; school uni- forms and book bags; singing in the Mikado and playing a love scene opposite another girl (that took acting!) talking to Kerry; wrestling with Grahame; A.F.S. ' ers at a national park — eating as usual. My sister9 — Peta, Kerry, and I (and Nuffy). Mum and Dad Big brother Grahame (all 6 ' 4 of him) horseback riding with Peta and coming home sore; seeing a jelly fish face to face. And there ' s been a lot which I ' ve learned — how to be really happy; to live for today; to be enthusiastic; to care; and, perhaps most importantly, I ' ve learned that people, no matter who or where they are, want happiness, friendship, peace, respect, and love. We aren ' t all really so different. I ' d like to thank both A.F.S. clubs and all your penny days ' givers for allowing me this opportunity to learn about myself, about people, and about our world. I learned to be alive this year — what could ever be greater? 112 Singing in the Mikado at Willoughby. My mother, father, and two brothers at home in South Africa. I spent a wonderful summer sailing. Dear Friends: From the time of my arrival in Cohasset. my stay has been a won- derful, exciting experience. Your warm friendliness and ready help has made my stay an extremely happy and full enjoyment of life. I am deeply indebted to you, the people of Cohasset, whose gener- osity and kindness has made this possible, and particularly to my family, the Barries, who have given me so many interesting and happy days. I hope that I have repaid at least part of what I owe you, and for the rest, I offer my deepest gratitude. This year has been, above all. a happy one, the memo- ries of which I will always cherish. Yours most sincerely, Paul My Sister Julie. Before a cross-country race. Thoughts From Paul 113 My weekend farm house in Dalsland. The Swimming Pool My summer house along the fjord 114 The first impression I had of Cohasset was sincere friendship and understanding of my problems. Cohas- set and its people are wonderful, and I soon made a lot of friends. I now feel as if I have two families and two homes. With help from my family, the McLaugh- lins, my friends, and my excellent teachers, my English has improved, and life has become easier. I have en- joyed this year more than any other year of my life and I will always remember the town and the people as the most important part of it. I hope that I have succeeded in helping a little bit toward a better understanding between the United States and Sweden. I would like to thank the American Field Service, especially its Cohasset Chapter, - and the people of Cohasset Chapter, and the people of Cohasset for the excellent opportunity that has been given to me to come over here and to learn so much, see so much, and meet so many wonderful Americans.
