If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them. Henry David Thoreau Walden We, the Senior Class gratefully dedicated the 1968 Tessahoc to a man who had devoted so much of himself to us. Not only has he unstintingly given of his time, but he has also extended his hand in friendship to each of us. We began our freshman year together: he as a teacher, we as the students. And now as we prepare to leave, he remains to guide future classes through the high school years. It is a great night not only for the candidates, Mr. Steven Park and Mr. Kevin H. White, but also for the class of 1968 at Cohasset High School from which both of the candidates graduated. Almost the entire class has shown up tonight to support both the candidates. As I look around the dome I see that one of the first arrivals is the great Daniel Sullivan wearing his sacred Mohammad Ali sweatshirt. We also have two celebrities here tonight; Warren Judd, who took time off from his television show Judd for the Defense , and U.S. Post Office General Thomas Keating. I see that Biffy Donavan, J. C. Peterson, and Paul Buckley are representing Ah Ha Beach in their Dewey Weber T-shirts. I am very glad to see Thomas Maher was able to tear himself away from his Smith Place Development Committee. Miss Pamela Bloomfield, star of stage, screen and television, is chatting with two old friends, the first lightweight couple and cham- pions of the world, David Freedman and Cathy Davis. Professor Laidlaw is with his most avid follower, Wendy Kerr. Someone just informed me that Sandra and Stanley Stovold have just arrived in their private Boeing 707 which they both fly. I see Chuck Rose, Cathy Raymond, Dave LeDoux, and John Fitzpatrick discussing their recent appearance on the television show Supermarket Sweep . I see that Byam Mc- Goodwin has just arrived also. With this crowd I don ' t think that Pam Hill has to try to hide from Billy Murphy. We have live entertainment tonight — a brother and sister act by Martha Grimes and Chris Stannard. We also have Janis Crosby singing her hit song I left my Bells at C.H.S. and Jackie Thompson singing his personal favorite the theme from the Grad- uate . Nancy Sencabaugh and Kathy Bailey have already gotten encores on their rou- tine . We are still waiting for Jefferson Thomas to finish tuning his guitar. It seems that the refreshments are terrific. I can see why as I look over at the refreshm°nt table. Tina Watson, Ann Noonan, and Jeanne McNeil (Macka) are hostessing. Grac- ing us with their presence are recent Nobel Prize winners in the fields of Science and Mathematics, Mr. Mark Goodrich, Prof, Robert Flanagan, and Mr. Richard James. I see that the renowned hockey players Thomas Hall and James Feran are giving them free season tickets. Earlier in the evening I had a chance to interview Shigeomi Suzuki, our foreign embassador from Japan. I asked him if he was enjoying the election proceedings. He replied, Su-wa. I overheard someone say that Bobby Henn, Sharon Collins and Ann Vecchioni are still living in that rustic area known as Beechwood. Beechwood is the only non-indus- trialized area on the earth according to big businessman John Henderson. Fashion consultants, Kathy Hobbs and Shelly Gardener are listening to Nancy Crolius ' modeling experiences. Sylvia Smith and David Reddie are discussing writing techniques, but seemed to be competing with John Mcneil who is relating some of the experiences he has been having in Florida. Richard Towle, who has recently won the PGA golf Open is discussing his winnings 43 with the great Jimmy Hurley, whose legendary baseball glove has been cast in bronze and put in the baseball Hall of Fame. Dr. Jennifer Gleason is relating old times with Margie Hubbard R.N. head nurse at Mass. General Hospital. Permelia Singer is discussing Smith Alumnae -meetings with Martha Wilcoxon and her husband. Coach Dorr Seniors Tom — (captain) forward Dave Forward — Guard Stan Forward Charlie Center basketball 67-68 Cohasset improved steadily throughout the season finally defeating the South Shore Vocational Tech- nical School 73-62. In that game both teams played sloppily, but a productive second quarter brought us to a commanding lead. Other well-played games include our first game against Sacred Heart of Kingston in which we lost 52-50 in the final seconds, and our game against Apponequet in which we lost by only ten points. Generally, we improved against teams which we played twice and during the second half of the sea- son we played much better than we did the first half of the season. Despite our poor record, the team never lost spirit, and it was always ' up ' for each game. Captain Tom Keating averaged about 13 points a game while Bob Dutton and Dave Hassan averaged 12 and 10 points respectively. Stan Stovold, Kevin White, and Charlie Haberstroh performed capably when put into games. Fancy Dan 73 junior High basketball Kneeling: R. Higgins, R. Mahoney, W. Signorelli, J. Fiori, D. Marks, R. For vectors connected head to tail — the start of all our troubles. For orders of magnitude (Compute the number of ping pong balls that can fit into the space between low and high tide in Cohasset harbor). For Sir Isaac Newton, who, needing a new math to explain kinematics and dynamics, happened to invent differential calculus. For flummoxes and greebles and indexes of refraction (George Hamburg sits next to Jennifer; n GH — 1.00, so he ' s invisible). For table-top traffic jams of spring carts loaded with bricks. For miles and miles of ticker-tape (Amalgamated Hotfeet and Consoli- dated Dust up .5) and psychedelic strobe lights. By parallax we computed the flagpole to be somewhere in Scituate. For Kelley ' s Fudge Factors 1,2, and 3, we are grateful — especially in tests. Labs and quizzes (duck soup) and brain-crunching. Her long dark tresses are ebony breezes Which seductively encircle the earth and its people. The moon, her crystal ball, softly glows As she casts her fortune-telling cards, the stars, Across the sky, letting them fall where they will. A man strolls the night, cursing the gypsy And her nasty stars for his rotten life, Unaware that he is the gypsy. Parlez-vous francais? That ' s what I learned today. I learned of Mendel ' s theories And Sutton ' s proofs, Of Euclid ' s laws And Newton ' s tests. How can they know, These teachers of mine, That my mind is sunning In soft, green meadows. Memories since last midsummer when I could not help feeling uneasy in talking with blue eyes — are pleasant to recall again, but I have to and would li ke to apply each of them to my future life. I think Japan today is literally where the East and West, the new and old, find their meeting point. Her actions and attitudes in the near future will be truly important to the whole Asia. Wen I go back home, I will have to keep studying much harder to understand the East and West, but I can truly say that those memories of my Cohasset year and of the sincere kindness of my U.S. Family, friends and teachers will help me and spur my effort. J J. in fl.Z.- J 967 New Zealand is a small, ruggedly beautiful country made up mainly of two 500- mile-long islands in the Pacific Ocean — about 1300 miles south-east of Australia. Her people are mostly of English descent, although some are Maoris (descendent from the Polynesians who first inhabited the country), Europeans, or a mixture. Living in this very free country, where there is freedom from overcrowding, smog, poverty, and racial conflict as well as freedom to speak, write, and vote, living with a kiwi family, being under a completely different educational system, and seeing our American en- vironment from a distance and, therefore, in perspective was a very valuable, rewarding, and fun experience. The American Field Service wants many people to have a similar experience; they are busy getting people of different countries to walk together and talk together to get realistic views of other ways of life and to find some badly- needed peace. This is pretty vital, so why don ' t you get involved?
