COHASSET HIGH SCHOOL the 1956 Tessahoc. We hope that this book will always be a favorable record of the events of your school year. DEDICATION Your life has been an eventful one. You have been graduated from Rhode Island College of Education, attended Brown University, and served your country in France and Germany. For Cohasset High School, September of 1949 started the key year when you became a member of our teaching staff. College math was your subject, and you taught it well, as shown by the school ' s high rankings in the nationwide contest of the Mathematical Association of America. Through your expert guidance in the driver education course you have helped many students to become competent drivers. In September, 1955, you took one more step — Cohasset High School ' s principalship. Because of you and of your record, we, the class of 1956, wish to dedicate our yearbook, the TESSAHOC, to you, Mr. Anthony D ' Antuono. Secretaries J. Hennegan T. Signorclli FACULTY MISS BETHONEY MR. SENIOR PROPHECY We all stood before the door of the strange building in silence. All of us were unions as to the answer to the mystery, but none would make the first move. Suddenly the door creaked slowly open, and we found ourselves in a huge dome-like room filled with a strange blue light. In the middle was a machine similar to a giant television set. Suddenly the door clicked shut behind us, and as we watched in wonder a picture began to focus on the screen. It seemed to be of Cohasset High School, and yet it was changed as if we were seeing into the future. One of the new jet-propelled busses pulled up to the entrance driven by Peter Giepen. Out on the athletic field we could sec a girls ' gym class conducted by . . . yes, it was Enid Dwinnells Inside the school we saw Frances Andracchio conducting a class in Senior English, and nurses Barbara Salraggi and Lorraine Frales examining students in the Health Room. In the office secretary Ruth Capone was sending messages over the P. A., and principal Judith Ingram was dictating a letter to Barbara Reed. We watched amazed as the camera left the school and moved down through the town. Everywhere we looked the signs were more and more familiar: Lin- coln Florist, Studley Card Shop, Bassett Jewelry Store, Salvador ' s Ex- press and last of all Norton ' s Detective Agency. In the window of the drug store was a big display of Claridge Home Dye-it- Yourself Kits. In the other window was a display of A. Sargent ' s New Smokeless-Odorless Cigarettes. Sud- denly our camera came to a stop at the newsstand where we saw the new Post with a cover signed Wihnore and inside a complete novel by Janet Faulkner. Some good citizen was reading the morning paper and our camera watched over his shoulder as he turned the pages. The first thing that caught our eye was the latest news of the Honduran Revolution and its leader — Miss Lesby Perez. The article underneath told of the recent arrival of the German Ambassador to the United States — Miss Roswitha Meseth. Huge headlines heralded the fact that Professor Brennan. protege of Oppenheimer, had just discovered the Theory of Irrelevancy. On the next page we saw a big notice of the Jazz Festi- val coming to the Symphony Hall with its big stars, Stanley Barnes, the famous pianist, and Ben Manton, the famous drummer. At the Opera House the Boston Ballet Company was playing, starring Nancy Tower and Barbara Taylor. A note to one side said that the show was directed by Joan Sargent. At Boston Gardens was the famous Florida Water Ballet directed by Dai id Truesdell; and coming the following week was Bring ' Em Back Alive, Bailey ' s Traveling Circus, with its star performer, James Shyne. On the sports page we saw that Mary Bacigalupo had just swum the English Channel — both ways. The Celtic ' s famous center, George Pope, had just made a world ' s record and scored forty baskets in one game. As the pages turned we saw Norma Chiasson ' s coast-to- coast gossip column and an article written by Joel Pratt, president of M. I. T. Suddenly over the sound track there came a deafening rattle and the camera turned away from the newsstand just in time to catch the exhaust fumes of Timothy Buckeridge ' s souped-up Model A still heading down South Main Street. Our camera entered the drugstore where we found Chief of Police, Gerry McLaughlin and Head Telephone Operator, Nancy Law son, drinking sodas mixed by Billy Curley. Nancy was reading the Cottager and we couldn ' t help noticing an item that Miss Marguerite Cashin, director of the Kindergarten, had just departed for a vacation in the South. Gerry and the owner were discussing the new superhighway that was being put through under the direction of Jane Waterman, and the new branch of Parker Rocket Lines which was being built on the edge of town. On the stand was the new copy of Life with its new series, This Moon of Ours, pictures by Bill Hanlon. Slowly the picture began to fade out and suddenly we were back in the pres- ent, still amazed, but no longer curious. CLASS HISTORY Cohasset High heaved a patient sigh as we meek little Lambs ( ?) entered her halls, September, 1950. Although the faculty often doubted it, we Soon learned that C. H. S. was a place of business. Set on the right road by our wonderful Junior High Teachers, On we paraded to the wondrous heights of high school. Freshmen! Though parted by our individual courses, together we presented our First dance. Our hearts stood still until we heard it was a success! And a success it was. Into our Sophomore year we stepped, rather lightly this time For the going was getting tough (Egads, who was the scoundrel who invented homework?) To our great satisfaction we were soon Juniors. During this Year we held one of the biggest Proms C. H. S. ever had. What ' s this? Seniors already? The time has flown too quickly, but we ' ll always remain Indebted to those who have done so much to shape our futures. X years from now, we will vividly recall the memories of Cohasset High School. This winter we staged a style show for homemade hats, and the results were spectacu- lar. As usual we sponsored our an- nual movie and went on our club picnic. Here, as every year, we awarded club pins to those who had earned them. CLUB MAYAZTECA The senoritas and senores of the club Mayazteca have done something new this year. With Christmas just around the corner they started sell- ing Christmas pins and ornaments. This new project along with the fudge sales made it a very successful year. We hope to top off the year with a picnic at Whitney Woods. Adios Amigos ! ! SENIOR ' OLOGY CLUB Left to right: J. Ingram D. Clark L. Watson G. Dwinnclls T. Buckeridge J. MacNcil D. Hines J.
