' Dedication We dedicate our Yearbook to the memory of John Sladen, friend of all Cohasset High School Students. Mr. Sladen was appointed by the school com- mittee in July 1939 as a janitor in the Osgood School. He faithfully performed the duties which the position required, and after twelve years in the summer of 1951 he moved with us to this building. Both buildings meant much to Mr. Sladen, and he never relaxed in his unceasing warfare on dust and dirt. Cleanliness was indeed next to God- liness in his lexicon; and for 14 years Cohasset pupils and teachers enjoyed a school where the housekeeping was on a par with the best through- out the schoolhouses of the nation. We may learn much by the study and consideration of the virtues and examples of the great men and women of the arts and sciences ... by the examples of the figures in history who have shaped the destiny of mankind. For our own lives we may profit greatly if we but heed the lessons to be learned therefrom. Therefore, I would urge you all to consider the lessons that might well be learned from the example of a man who was devoted to the task at hand, no matter how humble it might be rated in a glamour- crazed world. I think there still exists a great admiration in the minds of men for ardent devotion to the duty of the ordinary daily task. I know that all of us will miss the little joke, that cheerful humor which served to lubricate the frictions of the busy day. The American public as a whole could well emulate Mr. Sladen ' s respect for the public property ... a scratched desk caused him more suffering than an abrasion on his own flesh. The school community were his friends . . . pupils and teachers ... he worried about them all . . . enjoyed their successes . . . grieved at their short- comings or failures. We remember him now for his faithfulness to his job, his cheerful disposition, his readiness to help in any manner any student or teacher to the end that the functions of the Cohasset High School be well served. WILLIAM RIPLEY, JR. Superintendent of Schools

Perhaps there will come a time when the burdens of the world will make us so dis- consolate that we will have lost the ability to smile. We shall come across our old and musty Tessahoc in a dusty corner and it will carry us back into the past. Once again we shall be with our friends and classmates, while together we relive our old experiences. Our triumphs and downfalls will be reenacted, and we shall recall our youthful expectations. After the Tessahoc is back on its shelf, a smile will be on our lips, and a feeling as fresh and invigorating as youth will be in our hearts. CATHERINE TOWNSEND
