The record this year didn't come out as tremendously as was hoped, possibly from the fact that there was only 1 Senior on the traveling team. The seasons' record was 4 won and 11 lost, with the girls holding 4th place in the conference. They were defeated by Maquoketa Valley in the sectional tournament. Bonnie Holub and Karla Henderson represented Coggon in the free throw contest. Karla also was given as Honorable Mention on the All-State Team. TOP ROW: Coach Ron Ahrens, Dan Mollenhauer, Jim Noonan, Tom Knott, Doran Butschi. The boys' team this year proved to be one vastly improved over last year's team. Since this year's team had only 2 Seniors, there are high hopes for the future in the line of experience. The record this year was 5 wins and 12 losses. The sectional tournament this year saw Coggon losing to the conference champs, Springville. _ , The team consisted of 2 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 7 Sophomores, and 7 Freshmen. The Coggon track team had one of its most successful seasons in years. Tom Knott and Jeff Ellis, the two seniors on the team, gather- ed many points with their skills in the dash. Our squad of 14 boys were well balanced in scoring points which made it a contender in every meet. • The Rockets finished eighth in the Bulldog Relays at Monnona, with Steve Henderson and Tom Knott finishing 1st and 2nd respectively in the high jump, and Randy Shackelford broad-jumping 17'6 to place third. In the Pinicon meet our high jumpers were one-two again with Tom setting a record jump of 5' 11 3 8 , and Randy broad-jumping 18'. Our next meet, the All-Ac, was nearly ours by placing a winning 2 mile relay team on the track for the first time and a fine performance by Tom Knott and Dave Henderson. In the District meet at Cedar Falls, the Rockets qualified three boys for the State Meet. Our jumpers, Tom and Steve, came through again one and two, and Dave Henderson placed 3rd in the mile run with a good time of 4:48. In the Wildcat Track Meet at Central City, Dave was a stand-out in anchoring our 2 mile relay team, winning the mile run, and running on our mile medley which won first. Tom Knott placed 2nd in the Class C high jump in Des Moines with a jump of 5' 11 equal to the winner but had one more miss. Our 880 and 440 relay teams were strong all season and our mile re- lay team, the hayshakers, placed sixth in the District in a field of 17 teams. We'll take on anyone! Prom ROMAN HOLIDAY Roman Holiday was the theme for the 1965 Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom which was held on Saturday Evening, Ap- ril 24th, 1965, in the gymnasium of the Coggon Community School. The theme was carried out by the setting, the decorations, and the atmos- phere. Deep purple and white streamers were draped in such a manner as to give a lowered ceiling effect. Four white col- umns on each side of the gymnasium trimmed in gold leaves, plus bird baths and sundials helped to bring about the ap- pearance of a Roman corridor. At the far end of the imaginary hall hung the tragedy and comedy masks which ori- ginated from the early Roman plays. The main feature of the setting was the centrally located water fountain from which water continually flowed throughout the evening. Light lavender candles surrounded by angel-hair at the base and red roses were the table decorations. It was believed to have been a very successful prom and a memorable occas- ion for everyone.
