,Qt-i,ggff,':Qf if , V ,M 3 . ., THE PRUNI STAGE BAND as decorations and refreshments were provided by the freshman class, freshmen and sopho- mores alike enjoyed the delicate e but noisy - beauty of the spring formal held early in may. the freedom provided the music to which the listeners tossed, turned, swung, and foccasionallyj rested. the ccjc stage band was quite an active group this year as concerts were held at area high schools as well as in the college fine arts center. several days were spent toward the end of the school year traveling to various prep schools for the purpose of promot- ing the college music department and the college itself. band members are listed on page 25.

home ec club banquet the first home economics recognition banquet was held in may of 1971. doctor ruth hoeflin Cpictured abovej of kansas state university, gave the talk entitled take a walk around yourself . also presented were slides of the home ec. club's activities during the past year. the dinner was held in the banquet room of the student union. each year a faculty committee at ccjc chooses a freshman student to represent the college as community ambassador to a country of his choice to make a study of the people, language, customs and surrounding landmarks. the 1970 community am- bassador, shelley smith, made her journey to germany where she spent six weeks with her adopted family. after her return to the united states, she gave many talks to the various groups and organizations of coffeyville. bob hulsey, chosen l97l the history seminar class, headed by frank ortolani, restudies various battles of the civil war. included in the activities are the construction of relief maps of battle scenes and historical buildings. at the end of the semester, the students visit one of the battle scenes previously researched. u.s. history seminar community ambassadors rw community ambassador, will replace shelley as he travels to europe to gain more knowledge of its peoples.
