X., M M i W. -11i-- ...atv - pictured fleft to rightbz frances scott - coach, tracy mckinley, sue rhoades, tom glynn, mickey cross, david rice, gay mayfield, gary run- yon, and connie archer. coach scott reports that the seven players enrolled in varsity tennis class worked extremely hard getting in shape for the season. starting in january with the new semester, rice, runyon, archer, cross, rhodes, and mayfield worked out every day in the gym for 30 minutes to 2 hours. glynn was with the basket- ball squad and mckinley did notjoin the netters until late in the season. as soon as weather permitted, the team was outside practicing every day from 2-4 p. m. despite three rain-outs and the fact that this was the first var- sity tennis team in several years, all the players show fine records. the women's only defeats came from barton county, an undefeated school rated no. 1 in the state. the menis team lost matches to seminole, oklahoma. ccjc will be losing its best players, connie archer and mickey cross, as graduating sophomores, but retaining six frosh for next year's team should leave the ravens in a good position for the season ahead. rv ,. up 'Z Ag V . ,, V , T -:Gif

F .,4.i..s1.,...,,... w,ti l not alone in the support of ccjc bas- ketball, the team was well-braced by the raven cheerleaders and large, red-shirted crowds. cheerleaders were christina woodrum, debi mann, arthurene scott, gail messner, and janie hepner. the alternate was mar- cy pendleton. fortunately, there were too many in the crowd to name in this publication. all of these plus the jucoettes and two great red raven mascots e sally smith and alice smith f provided the red rage which spurred coach frederick's squad to success. Q40 '-'cuttnsn I i tom dietrich wayne briggans TRACK coach palmer, assisted by carey borum, led c'ville through a good season this year as the ccjc thinclads won the coffeyville relays and sent three team members to the state meet. the results of that competition included larry hrovat's third place in the shot put and GOLF 3 s . ,im ron leonard's fourth in the quarter mile. other cindermen were mel madoran, running hurdles and relays, jim sarwinski in the long jump, tom dietrich running the half mile, and wayne brig- gans in miscellaneous running events. gif A mf . Q' V ,ijllh --.., golfers pictured Cleft to rightj: david fuqua, larry endicott, tom mast, coach jerry cook, chris williford, phil robertson. a young raven golf team. coached by jerry cook and paced by phil robertson, at- tended six tournaments and placed ninth out of sixteen in the state during the spring, 1971, season. robertson had an 18-hole average of 80 while willifred followed with 81. raven golfers traveled to kan- sas city. hutchinson, and inde- pendence for their meets. although cook will not be coaching golf next year, it is hoped that scholarships and some outstanding high school prospects will strengthen the squad. lf
