In P'aiUi1'lP' perhaps the greatest honor ever awarded a Coffeen basketball team, the l9b9-50 Bulldops climaxed an outstanding regular season by winning two games in the Sorento District Tournament to be crowned Dis- trict Champions, and then by winning one game in the High- land Regional to reach the semi- finals. 623 206 SENIOR CLASS HISTQRY In the year l9h6, there was made a great addition to dear old C.H.S., namelyg the freshman class of 'h6. There were nineteen shining examples of ambition, students of which C.H.S. would be proud. They were: Dorothy White, Dorothy Moore, Carolyn Smith,Marie Ernst,LucLUe McDonough, Patricia Reed, James White, Joseph Hampton, Merle Jones Ralph White, Bill Grindley, Jack Combs Louis DeSart Carl Spears, Charles Limper, Leland Redfern, Bruce kimbro, Bill Blackburn, and James Elmore. Our carnival queen candidate was Patricia Reed, her escort was James White. Our sponsor was Mr. Kirchoffer, who engineered our return party for the sophomores. We held the party in the pasture behind the school. After refreshments we played games on the ball field. Our class president was James White, our vice-president was Patricia Reed, our secretary was Merle Jones, and our treasurer was Bill Black- burn. Our sophomore year, nineteen wise old sophomores gatherediuaput their nose to the grindstone once more. During this year we gained Marilyn Massa, and lost Dorothy Moore, Joe Hampton and Bruce Kimbro, which brought us down to sixteen. We elected Leland Redfern as president, Ralph White as vice-presrdmm Lucille McDonough as secretary-treasurer. We initiated the freshmen and did we work them over! They just could not bring themselves to eat crackers off of the floor. Our candidate for carnival queen was Marilyn Massa, her escort was Jim Elmore. In our ranks at the close of the year were: Marilyn Massa, Ca rolyn Smith, Dorothy White, Lucille McDonough, Marie Ernst, James White, James Elmore, Carl Spears, Louis DeSart, Charles Limper, Merle Jones, Bill Blackburn, Ralph White, Jack Combs, and Leland Redfern. On the first day of the school year l9L8, there were thirteen jolly juniors that reported for duty. Later in the year we were joined by Bruce Kimbro and Phyllis Polston. Our candidate for carnival queen that year was Lucille McDonough, her escort was Leland Redfern. . Continued on next page JJ: - lv, u. Jr -L '?' w r A Z3 6 I5 Zi! CLASS HISTORY KCONTINUEDJ Our president that year was James White, our vice-president was Carolyn Smith, our secretary was Eunice Rumery and our treasurer was Lucille McDonough. Our sponsor was Mrs. Cozine, who directed our play WIt's Tough To be Rich.' Everyone remembers how Merle Jones stole that show! We gave the seniors a banquet that year that was really a banquet. We also took them to the St. Louis Forest Park. A few of us got up enough nerve to ride the roller coaster. That was one of the best years we spent at Coffeen High. At the end of the year there were fifteen of us. They were: Lucille McDonough, Carolyn Smith, Marilyn Massa, Eunice Rumery, Marie Ernst, Phyllis Polston, Bruce Kimbro, Ralph White, James White, Carl Spears, Louis DeSart, Bill Blackburn, Merle Jones, Charles Limper, and Leland Redfern. Our Senior year at Coffeen High was the best one yet. Our candidate for carnival queen, Carolyn Smith, was elected. We sponsored the Gifford Players, a very good group of actors. They gave a play titled WOur Home Town.W We also sponsored the yearbook. Miss Wheeler had charge of production, and under her leadership we turned out one of the best annuals ever produced in this school. We have done our best for Coffeen High School. We shall continue to help it in any way we can. Our members are: Lucille McDonough, Carolyn Smith, Marilyn Massa, Eunice Rumery, Marie Ernst, Phyllis Polston, Bruce Kimbro, Ralph White, James White, Carl Spears, Louis DeSart, Elmer White,Everett Underkofler, Bill Blackburn, Merle Jones, Charles Limper, and Leland Redfern. HILLSBORO ILLINOIS HILLSBOROA ILLINOIS PBCPHECY June 15, 1965 A few months ago as I sat by the fireside.. I began wondering how my classmates of 1950 were faring in this cold, cruel world. I there and then decided to find out about each of my classmates. Merle Jones who joined the Navy before school was out is still in the Navy. He was promoted once but lost his promotion the next day when he got to celebrating too big. He is still known as Long-Come-Jones. Charles Limper is now a very scientific farmer. He now has 300 acres of farming land and it is increasing in size all the time: He has four boys, the first one he named Eeny, the second one Meeny, the third one Miny, and the fourth one he named No Moe. Leland Redfern is now lhold your breath! president of the Coffeen National Band. WSpeedy' still is a great hunter. As yet he has not found a woman good enough for him. Louie DeSart has been owner and operator of the old Harold Myers Store for the last five years. He now owns a chain of stores in five differ- ent towns. Lucille McDonough is now the Corno Feed Sack' Wife of Vanburensburg. Since her marriage the population of the WBurgW has increased rapidly. Marilyn Massa who has not-yet found a man to suit her is as yet an old maid. Marilyn heads the gossip column in the Coffeen News Herald. She is on a twelve party line. Guess how she gets her news? Carl Spears, a very up and coming young fellow, soon after graduation, got the urge for adventure. He went to Alaska where at the present time he is a very prosperous trapper. Bruce Kimbro is now touring the United States with the Bangum and Bungling Circus. He stars as a professional weight lifter. During the winter he is bouncer for the Deluxe Night Club. Jim White after serving two years in the Navy signed a contract with the St. Louis Browns. Since his first year when he batted .LOC he has had an unheard of average. It is so lowthat it has never been reported Eunice Rumery, commonly known as 'TexW, returned to the oilwells of Texas to marry her beloved dreamboy. Dreamboy fizzled out, so Tex is back in Coffeen as a Wsodajerkn. Ralph White after struggling through four years of college returned to Coffeen to coach the Coffeen Bulldogs. He has racked up a terrifi c record, one never equalled before in the history of Coffeen High. In the last ten years he has only won ten games. Each win was over Fill- more in the Coffeen gym. Guess how he meets his wives? Elmer White soon after graduation got a job as a traveling salesman. He sells the new, finer textured, longerlasting, Baby Jumbo Diapers. He gives free demonstrations. Marie Ernst during the summer after graduation went to New York where she got such a Whig head' from being so high in society that she has never returned to Coffeen. ' Phyllis Polston married a man in the hills of Kentucky. She goes around barefooted all the time. It is rumored that her husband runs a Wstilln way back in the hills. Bill Blackburn has become the world's most famous jockey. His wife found that a man sometimes loves a horse as well as a woman. Carolyn Smith a dashing young damsel in her school days is now the girls physical education teacher of Coffeen High. Carolyn is still the best girl basketball player Coffeen has ever produced. William Hull escorted Charlotte Smith at the annual C.H.S. Carnival. Charlotte Smith gained fourth place in the race for queen at the Carnival. The junior class favored the colors black and blue because every time the class had a meeting the discussion usually turned into a disagree- ment. One bright spot of the year for the juniors came when one of it's members, Agnes Limper, won a salesmanship award in the school contest. The basketball team was well blessed with juniors, all of whom worked hard to make the team a glowing tribute to C.H.S. Also out of the ranks of the junior class came one of C.H.S.'s best cheerleaders whom we were all very proud of. We have had some very pleasant social activities through the year. In October we had a weiner roast at which all had a fine time. Christmas we had a party in which the children put on their own program. We had our tree beautifully decorated and exchange gifts were placed underit. Our basket-ball team has been hot this year and if they can remain to- gether until they get to high school they will be hard to hold. Talk about pretty cheer leaders. We have them, and they can do their stuff. We expect to have a big party Valentine Day. There will be a valentine box of course. There is only one trouble with room three, they are too bashful. Our boys are planning on making a cabin in the woodsthissunmez'ifthey can find a place far enough from civilization and girls. All in all l9L9-1950 has been a good year for room three.
