Coach Grant has kept Coffee in the spotlight in football and baseball. lt has been refreshing in that he has shown that a gentleman can win games and gain the respect of those who play for him. He has been a source of instruction, for by word and example he has been a leader to boys who play under him and to the hundreds who look over his shoulder from Sep- tember to May. He has been greatly responsible for that intangible necessity of every school - school spirit. For these reasons it is with a great amount of appreciation that the Staff makes this dedication to Joe Grant, who, although not a graduate of our school, is truly a Coffee man. l8l MR. RUFUS G. HIBBETT Superintendent A Message to Coffee Students: The scope and quality of our educational program should reflect the inescapable fact that while the rewards of intelligence are infinite, the penalties of ignorance are catastrophic. Ignorance is a far greater handicap to an individual than it was a gen- eration ago, and an uneducated populace is a greater handicap to a nation. May we all be thankful that it has been our lot to have been reared in the United States of America, a nation rich in tradition, with unlimited opportunities. Ours is a nation in which the underprivileged boy or girl, even from the slums, who is fortunate to have his life touched by even one great inspiring teacher may ascend to any height of success. Many speakers who address high school students state, One of you may be- come president of the United States, others will become doctors, lawyers, bankers, teachers, merchants, journalists or farmers. On one occasion 0 speaker added, Yes, and I regretfully say that a few of you may become criminals or beggars. Cof- fee High School has an illustrious array of alumni and there are a few of whom we are not proud. Have you cast your die? It is for you to decide. It is our hope that you have taken advantage of the opportunities offered at Coffee High School. Those who grasp the opportunities of today are those who create the opportunities of tomorrow. Dreams SENIOR CLASS MOTTO Have dreams 'Though they wander Though the ghettos of your soul Like a tramp Whistling In the frightening pre-dawn maw Of a great slumbering city, Knowing He will never rule an empire As surely as your dreams Must know They will never be fulfilled. 'Though they eat Like worms At your heart, Writhing And granting no rest, Forsake them not, For dreams are hope And hope ls the soul of dreams. -Phil Stanford We move forward by struggling upward.
