C. HIGGINS Coeburn Community Library D r r. There is a school house on the hill that holds within it ' s walls the story of days so filled with wonder, confusion, happiness, sorrow, yes, even love— that it has become a part of every room, every hall, every hidden corner, and every brick .... and if this school could speak, if it could tell of all that it has seen .... the moments of incompara- ble fun, the moments of seemingly terrific tragedy, hours of study and hours of evading study, the years spent with those whose friendship grew and grew becoming more loving and more loyal as the years passed. If this school could speak, the heart could not help but listen— for this is Coeburn High School ... on the hill . . . where thousands of un- forgettable memories are hidden. It is sincerely hoped that this volume, bound in blue and white, will serve to remind you of familiar scenes, faces, memories, thoughts and events you never, never wish to forget. Take it and enjoy it. May each page help you to relive happy, by-gone days. P ' s eo licahon We gladly dedicate our 1949 REFLECTOR to our two coaches. They have del igently lead us through a triumphant year in the field of sports and at the same time tried to instill in us the ideal of fair play. They have unceasingly given of their time and knowledge to train us physically so that we may develop into a more well- rounded person, always stressing the importance of good, clean, wholesome fun. Be- cause they have made us happier, stronger individuals we dedicate our annual to . . . COACH KARL REEDY AND COACH GOTHARD BAYS. MR. A. D. BRAGG, JR., B.A., M.A., Principal Standing as a symbol of that which is right is our principal. He speaks to us with firmness, makes us do many things we do not especially want to do, punishes us when we don ' t do what we should . . . continuously tries to mold us into good citizens that we may take our place in the world. For these things we profoundly respect and admire him. There is another side of his nature, however, and it is this more warmly human aspect of his person- ality that we shall remember ... his gentle teasing, his ready wit, his straightforwardness and sincerity, his friendly attitude to the big and the little, his very presence on occasions that are important to us . . . our banquets, our parties, etc., and above all, his faith in us. For these things ... we love him. MR. OREN R. COUNTS, B.S English, Latin 9 - .% ■tf n , MR. JOHN HAMM, B.S. History, Science, Biology MISS VIRGINIA BEAVERS, A.B. History, Science MR. The girls and boys on this page are the ones who have compiled this year ' s REFLECTOR. We hope you will like it as much as we have enjoyed editing it. It wasn ' t all fun though; much of it was actual work. But we feel that every single effort will be appreciated more and more as the years go by. The strange noise coming from out close to the Gym that you ' ve been hearing is the Coeburn High Band . . . the one you ' ll be applaud- ing next Fall at the foot- ball games. Under the direction of Mrs. McChesney they have progressed excep- tionally well. They have no uniforms yet but hope to have them in the near future. Everyone on the Hill is so grateful to the Woman ' s Club for making the Band possible. It is something that we will be wonderfully proud of when we hear them play and see them march. Twenty-five music loving girls and boys lift their voices in the beauty of a song as Miss Lora Jordan accompanies and directs the Glee Club. Unknowingly they have shared this love with those who happened along tTie halls— who paused— and listened.
