FUHWABU Never before in the history of Coe College has a yearbook been put out under such trying conditions. Shortages of film, photographers, man-power, metal, mounting materials, money, along with much indecision among the members of our small student body this year, have made the publication of this annual seem almost too difficult to proceed with at times. We have necessarily had to modify the book to fit the circumstances. lt is many pages- thinner than a normal ACORN, no fancy Work on the pages, no irregular cuts, no color. 'We regret that this has been necessary, for We would have liked to have had a free rein , too. So We have tried to make the theme of the book one that will tie it together and one that will bring back your most potent memories of the year l944. But in spite of all difficulties encountered, the job is finally done. ' Perhaps in a small Way the determination of the ACORN Staff to publish a yearbook for Coe students is a symbol of the courage and determination of the average American to accomplish the job before him and to move on to other obstacles in his path to victory. ln all corners of the earth today Americans are being tested for their duty and respon- sibility toward the Welfare of their fellow Americans and their Mother Country. They are not failing us. ln spite of setbacks, in spite of hardships, the undying spirit of the American will flourish-the will to succeed.
