DR. C. HARVE CiEIGER, Ph. D. 861,11 0 mmen THE DEAIVS MESSAGE hlankind is privileged in being able to re- call past events, to see, in his mind, images of friends no longer present in person, and to enjoy, in retrospect, the satisfactions of pleasant associations. The ACORN will re- mind you of the beauties of the college cam- pus, the stimulation of classes, the delight of friendships. It will enable you to feel again the surging enthusiasm of a Homecoming crowd and to hear the music of the choirs and the marching songs of the aircrew cadets. May you feel, too, the spirit of cooperation, loyalty, and friendliness which has character- ized this college year, and may you be ever conscious of 1ny appreciation of your courage under trying conditions and of your support in the duties of my ofiice. ALICE B. SALTER 861,11 of tA8 THE DEAN'S MESSAGE A college Yearbook is a history-the rec- ord of a very brief period in the life of a college and a new generation of students. The period of time covered by this volume of the ACORN is not long. One year in the life of an individual or an institution may appear to be unimportant, but the record of these pages is important. The student body of a college changes rapidly. A full student generation is only four years. It is important, therefore, that some agency or means be provided that will give cohesion and continuity to life and liv- ing on the campus. An' uninterrupted suc- cession of .ACORNS accomplishes this purpose. The ACORN of 19-H serves to maintain un- broken the record of the passing years. It is a vital link between the past and the future. lllore important still, the ACORN preserves the past and makes the future possible. C. Hmzvis fiE1GER DR. A1.1cE B.
