Add them together and you have at least the be- ginning of an idea of Mr. Thomas Hall, a man who manages to be busy all year long. For the past four years, Mr. Hall has watched us grow, given us advice, told us corny jokes, coached our teams, told us more corny jokes, taught us Civics and U.S. History and other social studies courses, told us even more corny jokes, and above all dedicated his time and effort to us. For that, Mr. Hall, the class of 1988 gratefully dedicates this yearbook to you. 5 People Coming together and standing apart THIS PAGE. Mrs. McKernan and Mrs. Corbin joined the lan- guage department to teach French and Span- ish, respectively. Mr. Chauvette joined the social studies department and also taught driving to many students. Mrs. Colby was our new special education teacher. Ms. Melnick, a new special education aide, also advised the new ski club. Mrs. Aseltine's counseling proved a boon to many students. In the fall students organized the pet- ting zoo at the Deerfield Fair, com- peted in a number of contests in the area, and sold citrus. Spring brought the annual maple sugaring tours and the banquet and state conventions. A number of individual students won recognition, including Russell Simons, who was the state winner in dairy showmanship, and went on to win a silver medal in the national contest in Kansas City. David Mooers was the state BOAC winner in volunteerism, and went to Wash- ington. D.C. for a week. The CBNA chapter also won a national BOAC award. CHILDREN'S MINI Barnyard COE-BROWN NORTHWOOD ACADEMY FUTURE FARMERS AMERICA 57 FHA serves the community Annual Eye and Ear Clinic marks another success The CBNA chapter of Future Homemakers of America planned many activities this year. They started by as- sisting the Lion's Club with the annual Eye and Ear Clinic for preschool children. There were also fund raisers, such as a cookbook sale, which earned some members club jackets. 1986-87 President Brenda Daley placed second in the chapter in-depth project at the 1987 state con- vention, and represented CBNA at the national com- petition in Washington, D.C. The chapter has received a Gold Link Award for increased membership, as well as recognition for participating in many projects and pro- grams. This year Coe-Brown sent ten motivated sophomore, junior, and senior students. 120 other students from thirteen area schools also attended these series of lectures, which are followed by discussions with college students about the many topics covered. An added benefit enables the students to borrow from the UNH library, and apply for courses and mentorships at the uni- versity. It is a unique program that lets students learn in a university environment. Near the end of the season, more fans be- gan to appreciate the girl's talent, and the crowds cheered them into tournament. Enthusiasm peaked during the hard fought, double overtime loss to Farmington — a red and white night to remem- ber with close to 300 vociferous CBNA students, faculty, and parents attending. Unfortu- nately, the Comanches were stopped by Newport by a three point deficit in the preliminaries of the class M tourney. Losing just two seniors will result in a team that is both young and experienced which hopes to go to tournament again next year. TOP RIGHT: Gin- ger leaves the op- ponent eating her dust. Their 11-7 record put them on the winning track — usually having only five girls to play! As Coach Daley put it, 'They are a good group of girls — in good shape to be able to play the whole game like that. These girls have the potential to become good varsity players, so they'll be looking toward next year's freshmen for new talent to keep the wins coming. Their hard work and determination — in the form of hours and hours of practice — paid off when they finished with an outstanding 14-4 record. They have the distinction of being the only team to beat the top- seeded Farmington jayvees, while ad- vancing as high as the semi-finals in the class M tournament. Many of the players will be returning next year, so hopes run high for another great season in 1989. Short on seniors to start with, the team lost many of its more experienced players after losing its opening game against Newmarket. By mid-season, the team was down to little more than its starters, though they worked well together to rally against teams with almost twice the number of players. When three J.V. players moved up, the sit- uation suddenly looked brighter. Although the record was not good enough for a play-off spot, the young team, which will lose only one senior this year, hopes to start off winning next season. 96 52-57 Newmarket 50-90 Farmington 48-80 St. Thomas .
