Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1978 volume:

We, the graduating class of 1978, wish to dedicate our yearbook to Ms. Nina Poisson in appreciation for all that she has done for the 1978 Senior Class. Ms. Poisson has spent many hours preparing both the 1977 and 1978 Comanche Yearbooks. She unselfishly has given her time in preparation for the 1977 Junior Prom as well as other class activities. Ms. Poisson, in conjunction with her Business classes, has offered a great deal of assistance to the faculty as well as the administration. For all of the times that Ms. Poisson has helped many of us to make decisions and simply listened when we needed a friend, we wish to thank her and wish her all the happiness she deserves in the future. 2 Bernard L. The outdoors (hunting, fishing, hiking). n Grampa Johnson; Linda Stevens, President, Class '77 The class of '77 added a different spice to their commencement exercises by dedicating a plaque to Grampa Johnson. Grampa is one man with eighty (80) years of history and life behind him and with many more to come. His entire life has been centered around Northwood and its people. Grampa graduated from Coe-Brown Academy (as well as his wife and children) where he now sits on the Board of Trustees. He served as a selectman for twelve (12) years and was Judge of the Northwood Municipal Court from 1946 until 1967. In 1926, Grampa purchased a small chicken farm which has since grown into a large, well-known dairy farm. Johnson’s Dairy Bar was established in 1955 and for the next twenty (20) years was one of the most respected businesses in our town. Many people helped Grampa with Johnson’s including students from Coe- Brown, who he often considered part of the family. Although Johnson's Dairy Bar is under new management, Johnson's farm still runs like clockwork with Grampa Johnson standing behind its every heave and sigh. The dedication plaque to Grampa reads as follows: Grampa Johnson - Recognizing all the help and encour- agement which you have given to the young people of our community for many years, we express our sincere thanks and appreciation. With much affection. Class of 1977. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the FFA. Many special events have been planned to cele- brate . The Coe-Brown Much-To-Do FFA Chapter is one of the most active chapters in the state of New Hampshire. Various activities planned by Chapter members for the coming year include judg- ing and skill contests at New Hampshire fairs, an annual trip to the National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri, a Food For America Program at George B. White School in Deerfield, mak- ing and selling Christmas wreaths, maintaining a woodlot at the Academy, making maple syrup in the sugar house which is owned by the FFA, planting a garden and developing a Children’s Barnyard Program for the 1978 Deerfield Fair. This year's officers and leaders in the FFA are: President Vice President Secretary Treasurer Reporter Sentinel Leslie Magoon Gary Smart Bob Burklund Carl Can Arthur Thurber, Jr. Bob Fitzgerald It takes dedication and hard work to carry out the activities of a successful FFA program. Coe- Brown FFA members deserve much credit for this outstanding program. 48 The Coe-Brown Chapter of Future Homemakers gained our enthusiastic group of freshmen this year. We entertained them at a pot luck supper and sca- venger hunt in September. October brought installation and initiation. We presented each initiate with a red rose and the girls in turn presented roses to their mothers. Darlene Elliot, Sue Yeaton, and Carole St. Clair presented a slide show from the March of Dimes. Mrs. Dodge and Darlene are members of the March of Dimes Peer Education Team from N.H. In November we worked two days at the Eye and Ear Screening for pre-schoolers. We attended the State rally in Ashland. Four candidates won the Pri- maries - Roberta Witham, Lyn Hamel, Rhonda Potter and Kathy Johnson - and will compete at the State Convention in Keene in the Spring. At the State meeting in April, 1977 we won the Red Rose award for the State's outstanding Chapter for the third time. We are very proud to have this plaque hanging in our room. 49 STUDENT COUNCIL Advisors Mrs. Phyllis Dupuis Mr. Gordon Smart Representatives President — Chip Bates Vice President — Lorraine Twombly Secretary — Cindy Bateman Treasurer — Amy Stanley Cheryl Bocek David Brown John Cassidy Gary Colby Selma Hurlbutt Melinda Josiah Wendy Smith Linda Thurber LIBRARY AIDS Arthur Thurber Robert Fitzgerald Dean Lester Valerie Leffel Robin Mansfield Lorraine Twombly Advisor Mrs. Phyllis Dupuis SALES FORCE: Cindy Bateman Dave Coyle Missing: Diane Hastings Darlene Elliott Nancy Wilson Bill Plausky 52 (G) (H) (A) Ms. Nina Poisson, Adv, (B) Gary Fisher, Asst.
