As custodian, Mr. Colby has unselfishly served our school by seeing that it is always clean and in good condition. He works full time at Coe-Brown including both summer and winter vacations. Mr. Colby has also served the community of Northwood as a Volunteer Fireman and President of the PTA. Even though Mr. Colby does many things which we tend to take for granted, the Senior Class is grateful to him for his service during our past four years at Coe-Brown. 3 4 Dr. Richard Barker Mr. Norman Johnson Mr. Eric Linnell Robert Johnson Chairman Mr. Robert Low Mr. Peter Murphy Mr. Roger King Mr. J. There are more than % million FFA members across the United States. The Coe-Brown Much-To-Do FFA Chapter is a very active Chapter with over 80 members. Throughout the year members participate in a variety of activities such as: Competition against other New Hampshire FFA members by means of judging and skill contests, an annual trip to the National FFA convention in Kansas City, Mis- souri, maintaining a woodlot at the Academy. Community service projects, making maple syrup in the sugar house which is owned by the FFA, and many more activities. The Coe-Brown Academy Much-To-Do Chapter could not be successful without a little help from our friends. The Board of Trustees, Mr. Mason, the faculty, parents, many friends throughout the community, the state and the country, but most of all from the dedicated Coe-Brown Academy FFA members! 15 Thank you, everyone. They spent long and arduous hours discussing, laying out, cropping, checking and rechecking pages for the yearbook as well as selling advertisements to the community businesses. The dedica- tion they showed and the time they put in are qualities the entire class can be proud of and thankful for. We lost our pitcher, centerfielder, second baseman, and first baseman starters. If that wasn’t bad enough, when our 1976 season rolled around Randy White was gone and Mike Bristol also. Every- one thought it looked pretty bleak except our team. We had something to prove, that we could win with the personnel we still had. We were lucky to have the Ryan's and Pete Stone come here, they were an integral part of our season success. Last year's squad was undoubtedly the hardest-working team I have had the pleasure to coach. They knew we had a hard road ahead and they gave their supreme effort in every game. How did we do? A team most umpires and followers didn't figure to end the season at a .500 mark, we ended at 10-3, losing those three ball games by a total of six runs. Twice to the No. 1 team in the state, Belmont, by 3-0, 2-1 scores. Two championship teams in a row was great. Three would have been unbelievable, but the team I had last year proved something to themselves and other players. We were still good. Not just good, but with a couple of breaks we would have been on top again. In my own mind we were one of the best and I congratulate all members of last year’s team for one of our most memorable and enjoya- ble seasons in years. We all worked hard and it was worth every pains-taking minute! 32 I think I missed. Well, boys it’s like this. We all have our bad days, Russ. Boy, was that close! 33 BACK ROW: Chip Bates, MngT., Russell Ryan, Kevin Tasker, Rick Dudley. John O’Connor, Joe Sims, Brian Stone, Coach Johnson. FRONT ROW: Paul Smith, Peter Stone, Mark Ryan, Peter Guptill, Jim Yeaton. The 1976-77 Coe Brown Basketball Team Ending the previous season on a very successful note the 1976-77 Coe Brown Basketball team entered the season on a high note of enthusiasm. With a good nucleus of returning veterans along with a group of experienced Junior Varsity players, we looked forward to a season that would not only prove the competitive attitude but the talented personnel of our team. Among the seasoned upperclassmen were: Senior Captain Mark Ryan, other Seniors included Peter Stone, Rick Dudley and Brian Stone; the Juniors were Joe Sims, Russell Ryan, James Yeaton, John O'Connor; and the Sophomores Paul Smith, who in a game against Belmont scored 37 points in the first half, Peter Guptill and Kevin Tasker rounded out the roster. Capitalizing on a huge amount of effort, hard work and dedication during the preseason, this team proved itself to be a serious contender by easily defeating a tough foe in Belmont during the season opener and by Christmas vacation had put together three more victories in four outings. Undoubtedly this team, if not by their playing ability, will be remembered for its excellent atti- tude, on and off the court. One would have to look a great deal to find a better group of young men who can show the total sportsmanship displayed, in life, that they have shown this season. Coach Johnson 35 i T t 1 V a z ± i t y BACK ROW: Sue Ernshaw, Nancy Nutter. Tracy Sims, Coach Johnson, Cheryl Bocck, Miriam Hewitt, Debbie Atkins. FRONT ROW: Joanne Nutter, Terri Laderbush, Ines Capobianco. !£ a i k £ t £ C C The girls’ Varsity Basketball team is currently experiencing a successful season, with a record of six wins and one loss. Although the team is small - only nine members - the determination and dedication of each player is obvious every time the team plays. The two most memorable games to the date have been the Epping game, won in overtime on foul shots, and the Weare game which we won in the final seconds, 31-30. With the season half over 1976-77 girls’ basketball team is currently in eighth place in the state, and is cautiously optimistic about a tournament berth. Members of the 1976-77 girls’ basketball team are Sophomores: Ines Capobianco, Mirina Hewett, Che- ryl Bocek, Sue Ernshaw, Joanne Muntz, Tracy Sims. Juniors: Joanne Nutter, and Seniors: Terri Laderbush and Nancy Nutter. Coach Johnson 37 M. Stevens. Mgr.. K. Glidden. D. Brown. R. Bedard. L. Wallace. B. O'Conner. K. Tasker. P. Gammon, S. Harris. T. i Johnson. P. Smith. C. Sauls, P. Guptill, J. Kelley, Mgr.. Coach Morrill. L t y The J.V. team this year was one of the best ever at Coe-Brown Academy. Not only did we have a very good record, but the players developed an understanding of basketball necessary to compete on the varsity level. As a coach, 1 tried to develop both the physical skills and a positive mental attitude. I always stressed fundamentals and I feel this was one of the main reasons for our success. Every player knew what was required of him and every player knew his contribution was important to the team as a whole. I’d like to say that this year J.V.'s were some of the best people I’ve worked with, and I enjoyed coach- ing and working with all of them. 38 The 1976-1977 basketball season has been a new experience for the fans of CBN A. The junior varsity girl's team has established themselves as a well disciplined and hard-working unit. In the eve of the season finale, the girls have compiled an impressive 9-1 record. The fastbreaking offense has literally run away with many contests to the tune of 30 points per game while the exciting defense has pressed the opposition to allow only 15 points per game. The young ladies representing the academy have been extremely successful in displaying the finest attributes acquired through athletic competition. The lessons learned on the hard wood court will serve them well in the years ahead. Coach Healey 39 Allen, Cheryl Bailey, Anne Hammond, Tracy Bateman, Cindy (co-captain) Neal, Kim Bedard, Cathy Perkins, Judy Capobianco, Marie SUBS Stanley, Amy (co-captain) Hayes, Sue JoAnn Westwell Carol Stevens This year's cheerleading squad has been the most enthusiastic, co-operative and well-drilled group of young women Coe-Brown has seen in several years. The squad of strong-minded fractious” girls was well guided by their co-captains, Amy Stanley and Cindy Bateman. The girls' many, many hours of practice, their spirit, voice and their support at both boys' and girls’ basketball games and pep rallies do not go unappreciated. They did much to create the sport spirit that permeates Coe-Brown during basketball season. Thank you, cheerleaders, for a fine squad this season. Miss Erbach 40 - v «V 42 The 1976 Coe-Brown Cross-Country Team struggled through a mediocre year. Beset by injuries early on and late in the cam- paign, the Coe-Brown harriers finished with a 7-14 season meet record. There were, however, high points during the season. John O'Connor, who finished first for Coe-Brown all year, set the 3.6-mile Academy course record at 20:06. Dave Crummey was the most consistent runner and finished well at the Hollis Invitational Meet. Clay Sauls, after a week in bed, came out roaring at the State Meet and finished 47. Tough-luck Kenny Glidden, who sprained his ankle three days before the State Meet, turned in a gutsy performance and scrambled to a 39th place finish. Harold DeWitt, an inspirational runner, finished the first meet of the year in a flurry, assuring Coe-Brown of its opening victory; and Leslie Magoon, who loved to race, helped Coe-Brown to its sixth-place finish in the all-important State Meet. The team is a young one with everyone returning, and they will be tough to reckon with in the upcoming years. (2oac!2 ( Wozth £.n D. Crummey H. DeWitt K. Glidden L. Magoon J. O'Connor C. Many long arduous hours were spent designing and perfecting the routines that were per- formed on the balance beam, even parallel bars, modern dance and on the mats. Both boys and girls participated and enjoyed the varied activities offered. The students staged two performances: one for the elementary school and one for the general pub- lic .
