RACQUET SQUADS The time: tenth hour . . . the place: the court . . . the tennis court . . . this was the hangout of . . . the Racquet Squads! Strange figures began to appear on the court . . . very strange figures . . . carrying tennis racquets. XVhen questioned, they said they were just practicing . . . a likely story . . . they were in rigid training to become the deadliest squads in the city . . . but we didn't question them further . . . we had gotten the facts. Back at headquarters, they had another case for us . . . eleven suspicious-looking characters were seen hang- ing around carrying clubs . . . golf clubs. XVe questioned the youths . . . got nowhere . . . they wouldn't talk. An older youth came up . . . XV. Laury . . . he wouldn't talk either . . . hnally we broke him down . . . they're a dark horse team . . . awed, we tiptoed quietly away. The COMET went to press before the tennis and golf teams had participated in seasonal competition. Therefore, we permitted ourselves a moment of levity.

CCJDY CADETS Our Drill Team participated in the spring of this year in the All City Drill Competition which involved close order and manual of arms. The Reserve Oiiicers' Training Corps-R.O. T.C.-is an elective subject chosen by several hundred Cody students. The advantages of this program for teen-age boys are based on aims of self-discipline and self-improvement. Subjects studied and mastered can help any boy, even if he isn't planning on following a military career. Leadership training, map reading, instrument and weapon assembly and disassembly are only a few of the variety of interesting classes offered. Different activities that a cadet may participate in are: riiie matches, drill competitions, and oth- er R.O.T.C. field meet events. The Cody Rifle Team captured third place among city high . schools in the Fifth Army P Inter-Collegiate Rifle Match. fi ,1 l 4 l 4 ii If:--QM ' ., ..ex.1L.,,,- - --T V iff- i-ir.: .
