ELM On September 1, 1948, room 100 was filled with a group of about 85 Freshman. Mr. Hillkirk really had his hands full with such a large class. After we had gotten ac- quainted the following officers were chosen: President, Bob Schallg Vice President, Dick Hillg Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treas- urer, Peggy Reed. Our first big success was our float which won Hrst prize. The theme was based on the need for a new cafeteria. Then the Seniors rushed us with initiation and were really rough on us but we enjoyed it and the Seniors gave us a nice party after- wards. Since we had so much talent in our class we put on an assembly and took in a tidy little sum on it. The outstanding event of the year was the Ir. Hi Christmas Dance. A swimming party was also cane of the high- lights of the year. After summer vacation we were under the guidance of Mrs. Underwood and Miss Feldmiller. The following officers were also chosen: President, Bob Schallg Vice Presi- dent, Evelyn Hollabaughg Secretary, Emma Lee Offensend, Treasurer, Peggy Reid. We didn't do so well on our Hoat this year but we won second place. We made up for this by having a crazy basketball game to make some money. We took a trip to Pittsburgh with the Iuniors which proved to be very en- joyable and entertaining. The biggest event was selecting our class rings. We were very much excited over them and thought they were the nicest ones we had ever seen. We had several tureen dinners during the year and a very nice Christmas and Valentine Party. I Lge Zu cbfisfcvz The Smith Brothers were waiting to greet us as we started our Iunior year. The class chose the following as officers: Presi- dent, Bob Schallg Vice President, Bud Mo- rell: Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treas- urer Peggy Reed. The first undertaking was the Halloween Party which was a big suc- cess. Then came the St. Patricks Day Dance with Clyde Golden and his orchestra playing. Another big success was the Ir.-Sr Banquet. The theme was Aloha which means farewell in Hawaiian. The food, entertainment, and decorations were carried out in a native Hawaiian style. This ended our third year. All summer we felt pretty good and could hardly wait until we would return to school as dignified Seniors. Mr. Axtell and Mrs. Struchen were our class advisors. To lead us through our final year the following officers were chosen: President, Danny Clark, Vice President, Dick Hill, Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treasurer, Peggy Reed. We won first prize on our float this year. We had a lot of fun initiating the Freshmen and were a little rough on them but made up for it by giving them a real nice party. The Senior Play was a real success. It was en- titled, 'fProfessor, How Could You! The Yearbook Staff was chosen and got under- way. At Thanksgiving we had a dance with Larry Iones' Orchestra playing. Then in May the Iunior-Senior Banquet was held. The long awaited Graduation exercises came next which were really tear jerkers for some, while for others they were just the opposite. The final event in our lives as a class and as high school students was a very enjoyable trip to Washington.
