Q. Ugczfzfse JQEULECAJ' Our F.F.A. rented, for the 5th consecutive year, the farm of Mrs. Elizabeth Stockton. This year we had the farm seeded to hay and pasture. with the exception of 12 acres of wheat. VVe harvested 350 bushels of wheat, which was sold to Fredonia and to chapter members. We also planted 10 acres of corn on land that was rented from Mr. McCul- lough, and had 500 bales of mixed clover and timothy hay at the farm. Our main project at the farm this year was 17 head of fattening steer. These steers were bought in October 1950 at sales at Waynesburg and Brookville. They were kept at the farm and in the spring were turn- ed out on good ladino pasture. ln August. the steers were brought in to the feed lot and were fed the grain that was harvested from the farm the year before. Several of our members had individual steer projects of their own. Steers were all taken to the Northwest- ern Pa. Livestick Show and Sale that was held October 24 and 25th at the Crawford Co. Fair Grounds. The Cochranton F.F.A. had a right to be proud of their steers. One of the members showed the Reserve Grand Champion at this show. We had 9 purple ribbon winners Out of 10 steers that were judged worthy of this award. Our chapter also had 8 blue ribbon steers, 5 red ribbon steers and 5 white ribbon steers. The Coch- ranton Chapter made a proht of 1191.0-15.3-1 on the group project. We have another steer project started for next year at our F.F.A. farm. There are 10 steers in this new project, and we hope to do as well on them as we did last year. Two of the boys have projects of six steers each and others have projects of one or two steers. Our F.F.A. boys End the steer projects in- teresting and the prize money is very nice. ln December, we entered our project books in the County Contest and our books took first place among the county schools. The winning books were then entered in the state contest and we had -1 silver medal winners. We had 2 Keystone Farmers Award win- ners this year. They were: lim VVeir and Kenneth Turner. On january 14, 12 of our members went by bus to the State Farm Show at Harris- burg. The Keystone Farmers received their degrees and all the boys reported a good time. All work and no play makes lack a dull boy so our F.F..X. sponsored an ole lash- ioned hoe down' in the school gym on lan. Slat. Music was provided by Fred McComb and His Fun Makers. Former F.F.A. boys were invited and about 100 fellows and their girls waltzed and do-si-doed and had a nice time. ln February, we bought a new Iohn Deere ll tractor, plows and cultivators from john Oakes. ln March, we bought a G.M.C. truck from the Government. Our steer pro- ject money was invested in the purchase of this equipment. Our chapter also has a chick project this year. We got 225 white Rock cockerals in February: so far we have lost only 4. We expect to sell them to our members and take the rest of them to the liutler auction. Our Parent and Son Banquet was held on March 19. Our speaker this year was Mr. I.. D. Odhner of the Pennsylvania Chain Store Council. The turkey dinner was de- licious and bountiful-the speaker was in- teresting, so our banquet was its usual suc- cess. The boys have been busy this spring in our work shop. The G.M.C. truck motor has been overhauled by a couple of the boys. Some of the boys are busy building a farm wagonea trailer and a wagon bed, also a couple buzz saw rigs for on tractors. Looking back over the past year, the F.F.A. members and their instructors think it has been a good year and hope the next year will be even better.
