Mr. Hillkirk really had his hands full with such a large class. After we had gotten ac- quainted the following officers were chosen: President, Bob Schallg Vice President, Dick Hillg Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treas- urer, Peggy Reed. Our first big success was our float which won Hrst prize. The theme was based on the need for a new cafeteria. Then the Seniors rushed us with initiation and were really rough on us but we enjoyed it and the Seniors gave us a nice party after- wards. Since we had so much talent in our class we put on an assembly and took in a tidy little sum on it. The outstanding event of the year was the Ir. Hi Christmas Dance. A swimming party was also cane of the high- lights of the year. After summer vacation we were under the guidance of Mrs. Underwood and Miss Feldmiller. The following officers were also chosen: President, Bob Schallg Vice Presi- dent, Evelyn Hollabaughg Secretary, Emma Lee Offensend, Treasurer, Peggy Reid. We didn't do so well on our Hoat this year but we won second place. We made up for this by having a crazy basketball game to make some money. We took a trip to Pittsburgh with the Iuniors which proved to be very en- joyable and entertaining. The biggest event was selecting our class rings. We were very much excited over them and thought they were the nicest ones we had ever seen. We had several tureen dinners during the year and a very nice Christmas and Valentine Party. I Lge Zu cbfisfcvz The Smith Brothers were waiting to greet us as we started our Iunior year. The class chose the following as officers: Presi- dent, Bob Schallg Vice President, Bud Mo- rell: Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treas- urer Peggy Reed. The first undertaking was the Halloween Party which was a big suc- cess. Then came the St. Patricks Day Dance with Clyde Golden and his orchestra playing. Another big success was the Ir.-Sr Banquet. The theme was Aloha which means farewell in Hawaiian. The food, entertainment, and decorations were carried out in a native Hawaiian style. This ended our third year. All summer we felt pretty good and could hardly wait until we would return to school as dignified Seniors. Mr. Axtell and Mrs. Struchen were our class advisors. To lead us through our final year the following officers were chosen: President, Danny Clark, Vice President, Dick Hill, Secretary, Evelyn Hollabaughg Treasurer, Peggy Reed. We won first prize on our float this year. We had a lot of fun initiating the Freshmen and were a little rough on them but made up for it by giving them a real nice party. The Senior Play was a real success. It was en- titled, 'fProfessor, How Could You! The Yearbook Staff was chosen and got under- way. At Thanksgiving we had a dance with Larry Iones' Orchestra playing. Then in May the Iunior-Senior Banquet was held. The long awaited Graduation exercises came next which were really tear jerkers for some, while for others they were just the opposite. The final event in our lives as a class and as high school students was a very enjoyable trip to Washington. We threw back the Shnzlz and Klined out of bed in our luxurious rooms at the Hotel Van Derzfort in New York City where somehow we had ended after getting our Rhoade: crossed on a trip to San Fzuncisro. First a quick look in the lllerm' to see if we were all there, then We pulled the Rtmp for Bellhop service. Soon we were served a delicious breakfast of Cut4'hr1ll'i' Crunchies. Now, said Don Bahhitt, I think We should take a drive around town. But before we left, we had to catch up on Dick Tracy in the funny papers. Somehow we ended up in the country. While enjoying our drive, we noticed that Beverly MrCartney wasn't there. I bet Schtnizlt the bus, came from Dorothy Mitzch. We all agreed and continued our trip. Soon we came to a Hill where, to our sur- prise, we saw three men bent under the Hood of an old tin Lizzie, We stopped and one man came over and said he was a tourist from England and didn't know much about his car, which was a Wagner model, nor did his two friends, De and Wulf Smith. lark Wentworth quickly offered our services and we all went over to help. Kiley, said the Englishman, I think this thing is Dunn for. For 'Ezfonx sake, said De, MeQui.fton is this. What keeps the car run- ning? There is Linton the battery and the gas cap isn't on Wright, said lohn Ongley who had been busy looking things over. Don't Stull Smith: motor, yelled the Englishman to Paul Hurry who was inside busily pushing buttons and turning knobs. I think it needs Moore gas, loan Feldmillcr added. Yes, agreed Walt, and the Schuj doesn't seem to be on Stright. Sayre, old boy, said the Englishman to Mr. loner our chaperone who was busy setting under a tree, 'Alf I don't get this wreck fixed soon I am afraid I will have a Hurt attack. So our two able mechanics lohn Dtwiron and Dick Chenoufeth started to work and in a few minutes the three gentlemen were in the car going down the road. We all got back in the bus and con- tinued our iourney. Since it was nearly noon we were looking for a place for a picnic. We soon approached a bi farm. While we were driving up the lane we got stuck in the mud. We decided to all Brnlly out and Chofiel the mud. After many a Huff and puff, we were out and continued to- Ward the house. Old Murrlonalll the farmer, out from the barn to greet us. We went into the barn and Watched him Mook a cow, He said his hired man Lu washold that day and had several Beers so he fired him and since he had so many cows to milk, Ester Shull said we should help himg so we did. Then he took us to see his new Hague: that he had bought a few days ago for two Shillings. Put Pressler said they were the pret- tiest hogs she had ever seen, but we don't think she even looked at them. On our way back, we spied Allen Shoey and lurk Walton feeding the Heffer, nan, with a baby bottle. We all stopped to watch. Iust then a big moving Vaughn pulled up in front of the house. Old MacDonald said his good friend, Old McDaniel, was coming to live with them for awhile. He took us over to a pretty little pond with some Mallinrds swimming around. Then his wife And er :on and Iohn .von and Peter :on came over to see us. We talked for awhile till we heard some one cry, Mc Caught trying to get over the fence. It was Old Macdonaldlv daugh- ter. Turner over and unhook her dress, he called. At once Peggy Tingly ran to the little girl's assistance. Then Chuck Peters saw a pret- ty Kelly green field near by and asked Old Mae- Donald if we could use it for a picnic. He said yes and when we offered to pay for it he said we could use it Ifree. When We got there, the boys started a game of Ball. We sent Carl Wilcox and Wayne Striglzt to find some woodg but they came back and said there wasn't any Wood worth anything, so we sent Ronald Stullsmith to help them and soon they had quite a pile. Then Pearl Hinkle and Patsy Kelchner put the food on the blanket. We had a delicious dinner of corn on the Cobb, Beans, and Clark bars. Then we started home. On the way, we passed a Miller and a Shoemaker at work in front of an old house. When we got back to the city, we went to the Sunbeam plant to see the new Mex Master at work. Then, we stopped at a photographic studio to have our pictures taken. A small girl was posing at the time. She wouldn't smile, so the photographer said, Grin Nell. She did and soon it was our turn. The picture was good even though Shirley Stazfey had her eyes closed. When we got back to the Hotel, we saw a would-be holdup by a man disguised as a Knight in shining Armour. Fortunately, the guard was by De Vault. Need we rePete', We had a very interesting and exciting day. The Morrell of this story is Vonnie. lhriifgls, Ii. Wagner, Il. Peterson, I., Wagner, W. Ugczfzfse JQEULECAJ' Our F.F.A. rented, for the 5th consecutive year, the farm of Mrs. Elizabeth Stockton. This year we had the farm seeded to hay and pasture. with the exception of 12 acres of wheat. VVe harvested 350 bushels of wheat, which was sold to Fredonia and to chapter members. We also planted 10 acres of corn on land that was rented from Mr. McCul- lough, and had 500 bales of mixed clover and timothy hay at the farm. Our main project at the farm this year was 17 head of fattening steer. These steers were bought in October 1950 at sales at Waynesburg and Brookville. They were kept at the farm and in the spring were turn- ed out on good ladino pasture. ln August. the steers were brought in to the feed lot and were fed the grain that was harvested from the farm the year before. Several of our members had individual steer projects of their own. Steers were all taken to the Northwest- ern Pa. Livestick Show and Sale that was held October 24 and 25th at the Crawford Co. Fair Grounds. The Cochranton F.F.A. had a right to be proud of their steers. One of the members showed the Reserve Grand Champion at this show. We had 9 purple ribbon winners Out of 10 steers that were judged worthy of this award. Our chapter also had 8 blue ribbon steers, 5 red ribbon steers and 5 white ribbon steers. The Coch- ranton Chapter made a proht of 1191.0-15.3-1 on the group project. We have another steer project started for next year at our F.F.A. farm. There are 10 steers in this new project, and we hope to do as well on them as we did last year. Two of the boys have projects of six steers each and others have projects of one or two steers. Our F.F.A. boys End the steer projects in- teresting and the prize money is very nice. ln December, we entered our project books in the County Contest and our books took first place among the county schools. The winning books were then entered in the state contest and we had -1 silver medal winners. We had 2 Keystone Farmers Award win- ners this year. They were: lim VVeir and Kenneth Turner. On january 14, 12 of our members went by bus to the State Farm Show at Harris- burg. The Keystone Farmers received their degrees and all the boys reported a good time. All work and no play makes lack a dull boy so our F.F..X. sponsored an ole lash- ioned hoe down' in the school gym on lan. Slat. Music was provided by Fred McComb and His Fun Makers. Former F.F.A. boys were invited and about 100 fellows and their girls waltzed and do-si-doed and had a nice time. ln February, we bought a new Iohn Deere ll tractor, plows and cultivators from john Oakes. ln March, we bought a G.M.C. truck from the Government. Our steer pro- ject money was invested in the purchase of this equipment. Our chapter also has a chick project this year. We got 225 white Rock cockerals in February: so far we have lost only 4. We expect to sell them to our members and take the rest of them to the liutler auction. Our Parent and Son Banquet was held on March 19. Our speaker this year was Mr. I.. D. Odhner of the Pennsylvania Chain Store Council. The turkey dinner was de- licious and bountiful-the speaker was in- teresting, so our banquet was its usual suc- cess. The boys have been busy this spring in our work shop. The G.M.C. truck motor has been overhauled by a couple of the boys. Some of the boys are busy building a farm wagonea trailer and a wagon bed, also a couple buzz saw rigs for on tractors. Looking back over the past year, the F.F.A. members and their instructors think it has been a good year and hope the next year will be even better. Row Owrglxft tu right: I. Ulmglcy, l,. Gcmn'gc. R. Another highlight in the 195152 year, was the rendering of several well chosen numbers to open the Christmas Concert, which was followed by the mixed chorus. mc! Our band was represented at North West- ern District Band by the following people: Peggy Reed, Iane liurchill, Beverly Helsel, Betty Lou Pearce, Harold Crawford, Richard Hill, David Pete. The annual spring concert will be next on the year's activities. ln this concert, some solos will be featured and also a few numbers by the Chorus.
