Immediately we started work on our Halloween play, The Haunted Clothesline. After that, we began work on another play and tried to present one on the average of once every six weeks. Also this year. we went to the Erie Playhouse to see a production by profes- sional actors and actresses. After the play we were taken back stage and shown their elaborate lighting system. During this visit we all learned a great deal about the pro- duction of plays. During the year we were selected by the Penn Play Company as one of the few clubs in the state to receive, for only SIU, a number of play books valued at over Page 42 FRONT ROW: L. Pattison. I. However. this club is not only for the purpose of learning things, but also for the purpose of relaxation. This club is open to members of the Sophomore. Iunior, and Senior classes. This organization is intended to promote interest in the customs and language of the Spaniard and Latin-American. Among the year's activities were a hayride, a party at the home of Dona Francisca, and Dona Manuela fSmythl and the banquete de espano1, served by the Home-Ed. girls. QIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATIQN President Secretary .. Treasurer . The G. A. A. has been a very active organization throughout the current school year. The main service offered by this or- ganization was the operation of the con- cessions stand during the basketball sea- son. Each girl took her turn working at the booth. Meetings of the G. A. A. were held every Thursday. The first part of the year was devoted to basketball tournaments. During the second semester athletic badge tests were given and those who could qual- ify were awarded certificates of achieve- ment. In addition to the weekly meetings, many social events highlighted the year's program. In September, 50 boys and girls enjoyed a ride on Glenn Peterman's hay wagon and wiener roast in C1ark's pasture. FRONT ROW: I. McCaughtry, M. Hogue, E. Hutson, A. Iohnson. N. Snyder, C. Arbuckle, E. For many of us this was a new ex- perience. November's special feature was a bake sale held at Dunn's Meat Market, while in December we joined with the Social Games Club for a Christmas party. Dancing and refreshments were enjoyed by all. A Turn-About dance in March proved to be a very gala affair. The girls invited boys and presented them their corsages made of various kitchen articles and vege- tables. To close the season the G. A. A. held a picnic. This was the end of what we felt was a most successful year. SECOND ROW: D. Mitch, S. Stavey, E. Unger, B. Pearce, P. Peterson, S. Braymer, N. Evans, C. Hamilton, S. Anderson, Y. Morell, L. QWOCHRANTON HIGH SCHQOL BAND The Cochranton High School band is one of the highlights of the school. It con- sists of 50 pieces and is under the direction of Mrs. lnglefield. Last summer a Band Mother's Club was organized to raise money to buy new uni- forms. With an intense campaign of six months they raised enough to buy 53 uni- forms and four majorette uniforms. On November 21 a thank you concert was given to the public to show the band's appreciation for the new uniforms. In December the band played two num- bers for the Christmas program and there Page 60 were a number of solos and quartets par- ticipating that evening. In Ianuary, fifteen outstanding musi- cians from the band went to a District Band Festival which was held at Edinboro State Teachers College. A combined band concert was given with the Wesleyville High School Band at Wesleyville in February. Also in February the annual band concert was presented in our high school auditorium. In our band we have several organized groups such as the Brass Quartet, Saxo- phone Quartet, and the Clarinet Trio. QIUXED cHoRUs The Senior Chorus consists of sixty-two mem' bers under the direction of Mrs. Paul Inglefield, The Chorus gave its first performance at the Thanksgiving Assembly. lts next performance was the evening Christ' mas Program, Dec. 15. The combined choirs numbering 105 sang three Fred Waring arrange- ments, You'll Never Walk Alone , Comin' Thru The Rye , and Country Style .
