ed in the gym and en1oyed games refreshments a grand march and dancing Prizes were awarded to the students and teachers who were masked Several noon lunches were prepared for the school by us and profits were turned over to the Cohxso for the support of the Annual The Seniors chose Rowene Hollabaugh and Bill Klrngensmlth for honary ushers for Commencement We feel they were representative of our class Exams were enjoyed by us in late May and agam we were turned loose for the summer vacation remem berlng that when we came back in the fall we would be the Senior Class SENIOR Officers For 42 President Bill Klmgensmrth Vice President lm Vogan Secretary ean Wilkins Treasurer Fern Cauvel Our dream having been realrzed for at last we are Seniors For the last time ln our High School days our class gathered together and this time there were 46 of us We notice Immediately a change ln our school Mr Moon was gone but in his place as promised had been ably filled by Mr Spence Four new teachers were on our faculty and two new departments were added to the curriculum this year First on the calander this year was the Thanksgiving Dance This party was usually managed by the Cohiso Asso This year for the first time was sponsored by the Senior Class The I6 PICCC orchestra of B111 Lundall from Grove Cnty College was engaged and was enjoyed by all The theme of the dance of course was Thanksgiving and the gym was very elaborately decorated with green and orange crepe paper and silhouettes of orange and black oe York a last year Senior was drafted into helping us decorate the gym Something new in its way of actlvltles was ln troduced to the Seniors this year At the fxrst of the second semester several of our boys started the practice of cutting afternoon classes just going to school in the morning and working afternoons and evenings One of our members left March 2 to Join in the Service of his Country We country in this way We have flve members of our class whom we should pay special tribute to These five Kay Nodler Peg Steen Bob Moyer john Tlf fany and Bill Kllngensmrth have been together rn this school for the past I2 years March lst saw the first play practice the Senior Play Wind ln The South was chosen by a committee of faculty members and Mr Helsel was elected to direct the play A very successful performance was given on the nights of March 25 and 26 A record crowd was attending The Senior Class of 43 was very versatile ln the fact that It had so many of its members in so many different actlvitres We had four lettermen on the varsity basketball team three of which get sweaters this year wlth two stripes on them Ten of our boys were members of the F F A and took an active part in this organization Girls were enrolled ln the new Home Economlcs Association and they all learned how to be better than good housekeepers and mothers The four members from the Senior Class to be on the Student Council were chosen on Feb 20 with the following results Mary Ellen Stewart Bob Shee han Andrew Stallsmxth and Conrad Stembrenner The president of the Stu dent Council was chosen on March I 3 and Mary Ellen Stewart was elected May l9th through Zlst were the dates for the Senior exams this year B5 this time we had all our book reports in and our term papers completed Sunday May 23 Baccalaurete servlces were held 1n the U P Church with Commencement being held ln the Hugh School gym Mrs Mowry chairman of commencement exercises commrttee A patriotic pageant was the theme of the evening Tuesday May 25 class nite was held in the school gym And now as a solemn group of people armed with a High School Educa tion we leave C H S with over coveted diplomas With our souvenlors and memories we scatter like marbles dropped from a sack Wlth the world ln the condltlon it is now we do not know what IS ln store for us ' 1 l 743 -J are all proud of Ed Belknap for being so anxious and so willing to serve his

CLASS HISTORY FRESHMAN Officers For 39 ' President Lee Hall Y lce Presldent Bob Moyer Secretary Kay Nodler Treasurer Reva Peters In September of l939 seventy slx boys and glrls gathered at the famous portals of C H S and wanted untxl the doors were opened by our huge man Hls name was Mr Moon and we soon learned he was called prlnclpal He showed us to a large room and also mtroduced us to Mlss Vlolet Pressler who was to be our home room advisor Our education began rlght away as a bunch of unruly persons calling themselves Semors took over and soon had u doing thelr blddmgs Carrylng our books ln gunny sacks boys wearmg glrl clothes and vlce versa were some of the tortures mflected upon us Some of our Group were pamted with shoe polish and llp stlclc Yes we learned fast One Frlday evening after the group of Freshman had endured just about all they could the Senlors threw a bug party ln our honor at Shady Rest Park Carlton Here we were told that we could on the followlng Monday report to C H S as full fledged members of sand mstltutlon Around Xmas time a skatlng party was held ln Meadvllle by our class and about one half of the Freshman attended Then after another semester of study we had exams and were dlsmlssecl for the summer SOPHOMORE Offlcers For 40 Presldent ean WllklHS Vlce President ohn Buchanan Secretary Conrad Stembrenner Treasurer Fern Cauvel cut down to 66 Only thls tlme we were qulte a different bunch of students We were Sophomores We fmd two new teachers awaltmg us namely Mr Helsel who turned out to be our home room advisor and Mr Spence a his tory teacher This year a good many members of our class heard the call for muslclans for the school band Many of the Sophomore Class bought new ln struments and wlth the gundances of Mr Spence and Mr Helsel became qulte the players At Xmas tlme we had a small home room party when we ex changed glfts Throughout the year we served noon lunches to the school and the proceeds reallzed from these were turned over to the Cohlso for the sup port of the Annual Once agaln after the exams we were dlsmlssed for the Summer vacatxon JUNIOR Offlcers For 41 Presldent Conrad Stelnbrenner Vlce Presldent Arthur Greer Secretary ean Wxlklns Treasurer Fern Cauvel Ah' upperclassmen at last and for the thlrd tlme we resumed our studles at C H S By thls time there were 60 of us MISS Riddle and Room l04 were glven to us for our unlor Year home room essentlals ln the mlddle of the year our room was dlvlded Half of us went downstairs to the new room with a group of SCDIOTS to hawe home room wlth Mrs WCISIC The junior Class Play Early to Bed and Early to Rise was presented under the dlrectlon of Miss Vogan and Miss Rlddle After the second week of practuce Mass Rxddle got the mumps and Mlss Vogan carried the burden of coaching from there on however all around good performance was en Joyed by the audience The Annual Jumor Halloween Party was another hugh light thls year On October 24 the majority of the student body gather 1 ' ' -- 40 , I . lt n ,Dy S ' ' 1 '41 N TJ 1 Once again we entered' the halls ci-C.
