C J. 1. . . - ' - . - 1 . y 4 u .I ,- ' ' f ' - . xl 9-i CLASS HISTORY FRESHMAN Officers For 39 ' President Lee Hall Y lce Presldent Bob Moyer Secretary Kay Nodler Treasurer Reva Peters In September of l939 seventy slx boys and glrls gathered at the famous portals of C H S and wanted untxl the doors were opened by our huge man Hls name was Mr Moon and we soon learned he was called prlnclpal He showed us to a large room and also mtroduced us to Mlss Vlolet Pressler who was to be our home room advisor Our education began rlght away as a bunch of unruly persons calling themselves Semors took over and soon had u doing thelr blddmgs Carrylng our books ln gunny sacks boys wearmg glrl clothes and vlce versa were some of the tortures mflected upon us Some of our Group were pamted with shoe polish and llp stlclc Yes we learned fast One Frlday evening after the group of Freshman had endured just about all they could the Senlors threw a bug party ln our honor at Shady Rest Park Carlton Here we were told that we could on the followlng Monday report to C H S as full fledged members of sand mstltutlon Around Xmas time a skatlng party was held ln Meadvllle by our class and about one half of the Freshman attended Then after another semester of study we had exams and were dlsmlssecl for the summer SOPHOMORE Offlcers For 40 Presldent ean WllklHS Vlce President ohn Buchanan Secretary Conrad Stembrenner Treasurer Fern Cauvel cut down to 66 Only thls tlme we were qulte a different bunch of students We were Sophomores We fmd two new teachers awaltmg us namely Mr Helsel who turned out to be our home room advisor and Mr Spence a his tory teacher This year a good many members of our class heard the call for muslclans for the school band Many of the Sophomore Class bought new ln struments and wlth the gundances of Mr Spence and Mr Helsel became qulte the players At Xmas tlme we had a small home room party when we ex changed glfts Throughout the year we served noon lunches to the school and the proceeds reallzed from these were turned over to the Cohlso for the sup port of the Annual Once agaln after the exams we were dlsmlssed for the Summer vacatxon JUNIOR Offlcers For 41 Presldent Conrad Stelnbrenner Vlce Presldent Arthur Greer Secretary ean Wxlklns Treasurer Fern Cauvel Ah' upperclassmen at last and for the thlrd tlme we resumed our studles at C H S By thls time there were 60 of us MISS Riddle and Room l04 were glven to us for our unlor Year home room essentlals ln the mlddle of the year our room was dlvlded Half of us went downstairs to the new room with a group of SCDIOTS to hawe home room wlth Mrs WCISIC The junior Class Play Early to Bed and Early to Rise was presented under the dlrectlon of Miss Vogan and Miss Rlddle After the second week of practuce Mass Rxddle got the mumps and Mlss Vogan carried the burden of coaching from there on however all around good performance was en Joyed by the audience The Annual Jumor Halloween Party was another hugh light thls year On October 24 the majority of the student body gather 1 ' ' -- 40 , I . lt n ,Dy S ' ' 1 '41 N TJ 1 Once again we entered' the halls ci-C. ' 1 ,v ' a - 1 QHQLSSQS JUNIGRS HISTORY OF JUNIOR CLASS OF 1944 ln the year of l940 80 green but rather brllllant freshmen entered the walls of Cochranton Hlgh School to begun a career that was to mark them as an outstanding class We were surprlsed but pleased to fmd that Mr Spence was to be our home room teacher for the flrst year Shortly after entering school our lmtlatlon party was held at the home of Russell Bean Thls event was enjoyed by all who attended We had luncheons to ralse money for our class At Christmas tlme we had a small party ln our home room and exchang ed gxfts Our class offrcers for the year were as follows Presldent ean Dunn Vlce Presldent Dorothy Gull Secretary Loren Patterson Treasurer lrene Work After a pleasant vacatlon the students assembled ln Room 7 wlth Mr Hel sel as our home room teacher At the end of the first semlster the class was dlvlded Most of the pupils moved to Room l03 where Mr Helsel was ln charge whlle the remamder of the class stayed m Room 7 under the super vlslon of Mr Nelson A Chrlstmas party was held ln Room 7 and a lovely time was had by all the students Our class held luncheons to pay for our plcture ln the C0hlSO Toward the latter part of the year our Biology class under the leadership of Mr Nelson took a trip to Pymatunlng Dam We vlslt ed the lake the splllway and other places of mterest After we had eaten and played ball we went to Conneaut Lake Park where we ate supper and then ordered our class rings which were to be delivered the followmg September Our class offlcers for the Sophomore year were President oe Anderson Vlce Presldent Eleanor Carrara Secretary l..0lS Vogan Treasurer ohn Work Thls year as unlors Room l04 was our home room and Mlss Riddle was our home room teacher ln September we received our class rmgs We gave the Hallowe en party thls year which was a successful event lnstead of hav mg separate Christmas partnes thls year the whole school had one ln the gym ln December we had tryouts for cheerleaders Three groups participated Jn thls The unlor group conslstlng of Dorothy Gull and Eleanor Carrara were chosen to represent the school Shortly after this Elame Gxlmore was added to the group The one bug project of the class was sponsormg the Georgra Wildcats on Aprll 8 The audltorxum was very well fllled and a n1ce sum was realized The officers were as follows Presldent John Work Vice Presldent Eleanor Carrara Secretary Elalne Gilmore Treasurer lrene Work ' -J went roller skating. ' . . 9 n The Sleep of the Child Jesus, O Holy Night, and White Christmas. l THE HIGH SCHOOL BAND The Cochranton Hugh School Band which conslsted of 55 pleces made rapld progress under the very capable dnrectlon of our prmclpal Mr Spence Throughout the school year practxce was held twlce weekly On many occas sions such as pep meetlngs and student body gathermgs the band provlded entertainment wlth stlrrmg marches The band made lts frrst appearance when lt led the Cochranton Farr parade last fall ln November the band added muslc to Patron s Nlght 1 night set aslde m whlch parents were mvlted to vrslt the school and become own Chrlstmas Program m whlch Yuletrde muslc was both played and sung and enjoyed by everyone In February part of the band was mvxted by the A A A of Meadvllle to entertam them m the Stone Church Seventeen mem bers partlclpated m this event The band also provxded enjoyment for the Pomt Ration Program On Aprll I5 xt held lt s annual Sprung Concert The last event ln whrch the band took part was Senior Commencement nn May During basketball season at every home game Mr Spence led a small number of players on to the stage to create a pep session It added spmt and enthusiasm to every game TT T l better acquainted with the teachers.
