Addams graduated from Harvard College in June 1952. Upon completion of Officer Candidate School in May 1953, he attended Explosive Ordnance School, and, upon graduation, served as Officer in Charge, Harbor Defense Unit, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Subsequent sea tours included duty as Operations Officer, USS WILLIAM C. LAWE QDD-7631, CommunicationsfCIC Officer, Staff Commander Destroyer Flo- tilla TWOg and as Operations Officer, USS WILLIAM V. PRATT QDLG-135. Following graduation from the Command and Staff Course of the U.S. Naval War College in 1963, he was selected to remain on the faculty. During this tour he also completed his studies with George Washington University, earning a Master of Arts in International Affairs. Commander Addams then reported to the commissioning detail of USS JOUETT QDLG-291, and subsequently served as Executive Officer. On 8 June 1968 he assumed command of COCHRANE. He is married to the former Mary Ellen Waugh of Boston, Massachusetts. They have two sons.

N6 OFFICER Q17 JAN 67 -- 8 JUN ee CDR T.I. KOLSTAD USN Commander Tom I. Kolstad of Palestine, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1950, and reported to USS ROCHESTER QCA-1241. In 1952 he WaS assigned to the commissioning crew of USS NORFOLK QDL-ll, and served as Electrical Officer and as Main Propulsion Assistant. His next tour was as Com- manding Officer of USS WHIPPOORWILL QMSC-2075, which he commissioned. During this tour he also served as Commander Mine Division THIRTY TWO. A tour in the Officer Distribution Section of the Bureau of Naval Personnel was fol- lowed by assignment as Operations Officer in USS TURNER JOY QDD-9515. In 1961, Commander Kolstad was ordered to the University of California, Berkeley, for graduate study in Political Science, obtaining a Master of Arts De- gree. He then reported to the Staff of Commander U.S. SEVENTH Fleet as Aide and Flag Secretary. Prior to assuming command of COCHRANE in January 1967, he served as Executive Officer of USS DALE QDLG-195. Upon being relieved as Commanding Officer of COCHRANE he reported to the office of Chief of Naval Personnel. Commander Kolstad is married to the former Carolyn Mears of Merion, Pennsylvania. They have one son and two daughters.

EX CUTIVE 0 F GER A, LCDR c.J. WAGES, JR USN Lieutenant Commander Clarence J. Wages, Jr., a native of New Orleans, re ceived a direct appointment as Ensign, USNR, upon graduation from Louisiana State University in 1956. His first tour was on USS CALCATERRA QDER-3901 as CIC Officer, Navi- gator and Operations Officer. Following a tour as Executive Officer of the USS EXULTANT QMSO-4415, he served as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to Commander Mine Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Subsequently, he served as Engineering Officer in USS KING QDLG-105, and in the Bureau of Naval Personnel in the Officer Assignment Section. Prior to Reporting to COCHRANE he attended the School of Command and Staff, U.S. Na- val War College. During the Korean War, Lieutenant Commander Wages served as an en- listed man on board USS MCCORD CDD-5345, and USS RICHARD E. KRAUS QDD-8493. He is married to the former Cynthia Caldwell of Metairie, Louisiana and they have one daughter.
