ilu W I i V . i, P' 2 il li i a H it During election of Beta Phi Gamma officers Joan Anderson, Bernice Irvin, Patty Smith, Louise Newton, Sally Gamble, and Lillie Molzahn await results. Ji-l. W, i ' .ii ,i - iii ,, t I in in 1 1 Newspaper staffers Joan Anderson, Sally Gamble, Bernice Irvin, Irene Smith, Patty Smith, Lillie Molzahn, Ray Mellas, Louise Newton, Susan Hoyos, Susie Johnson, and Cindy Davis pose for a group shot. Freedom of the press is vital in today's world. When Irene Smith, Helio- graph editor, was asked whether freedom of the press was practiced on the CC campus she responded, There's no censorship on anyone's part. We're allowed to print anything as long as it isn't libelous or in bad taste. She continued, This is what freedom of the press is about and we're allowed to tell it like it is. With underground newspapers so numerous, Irene was asked whether she thought there was room for one at CC. Yes, there is room for one. She continued, In prior years there have been various underground news- papers, but never has one attacked the school paper which is a good reflection on the Heliograph. It shows we're expressing the student's views. Asked how many students who first enter a program such as this quit, Betty replied, Usually quite a few leave the first year. They find out they cannot make it then. Here we were lucky. Ofthe total enrolled, only four dropped put before graduation. For being the first class and having so many program changes, the students' enthusiasm was great. I found that although this two year program is offered in a small town, you get much more experience, Betty Jo con- eluded.
