Supreme Court nSi.giFgf'i:Q is -P is I- Supreme Court Justice Terry Metzenbaum contemplates the new con- stitution andthe power that has been placed in the court's hands. Members: Frank Guerrero Melody Huncovsky Terry Metzenbaum Ronnie Orozco, chief justice Norman Wilson This school year found the Supreme Court, as well as everyone else, completely confused as to what their powers were. The court justices turned to and drew up a new constitution. Regarding the constitution, Ronnie Orozco, chiefjustice, stated, This year we drafted a constitution which we hope will serve as a guideline for deciding the proper place for cases to be heard. This constitution will take the power of decision making out of the Student Director's hands and put it on paper. I pray we made the right move, he con- tinued. Ron explained how he felt about women in the US Supreme Court as well as the CC Court. Fifty two percent of the people in the US are female. However the laws in the country seem to be made by the remain- ing 4896, the males. Although I grant the possibility of men being superior, I feel our laws are based on the morals of a group of men and are not representative of the women. It seems the only voice on these laws that women have lies in the homes, where most men say, it belongs, quipped Orozco. xv, ig: Q lust' -- ' i,E'1'1iw,ff1,,, , , ,Y ir 1 . :::.:em.l As the photographer advises Norm Wilson, Ronnie Orozco, and Frank Guerrero to look casual, each strikes a different pose. 63

A host believe it 'is the answer to countless problems in education in the Southwest. Guadalupe Olivas, a teacher from the adjacent Mexican state of Sonora, remarked, We can help learners understand both languages. The Spanish speaker has trouble acquiring knowledge when it is all in English. So with this form of education we can help students better. Lupita plans to eventually teach in this country and she commented, Bilingual Educa- tion tries to teach in Spanish and uses English as a second lan- guage so that the child does not become frustrated when he is not able to learn in English. Also this way he does not fall behind in his subjects. As they grow up they can learn English, but they will not have lost the knowledge. They have more of an opportunity to learn English by playing, es- pecially with other children who speak it, she ended. clubs and organizations l'l d ' .,f:::- 1- l N t rs WMS' lu L ' HHLNL: - 'QQ 'QQ' f':'.lQ lf ' P: x ', 4 :a,f'7A55i T ' 'Q' 'Lf D l tg, , ,lg .xx A. 5 Six 1 2 ff. it 'll Nil t, P- ll ,,' -. 22 if ll ' ll ., -, --hai 2- A l, .flidiill gil - - . 1 - 5 . , E..--H ? ,. . 2 P'liZlt:i' We . ef t .L Frank Guerrero and Lupita Olivas discuss some Spanish literature before one of the club's sessions.
