Apparently Clarice and John think someone slipped in a 'fnice joke during one of the noon sessions. JLQ 4 -,ff DECA President Rick Willcox commands the attention of Clarice Silva, John Jensen, Maureen Scherden, Lois Jensen, Roy Plana, and Alvin Jones as a few points require minor adjustment. President Richard Nixon tried to stop a run-away economy with his price and wage freeze followed by Phase 2. John Jensen, a business major, remarked, The freeze did not help be- cause it was not strictly enforced. Also the businessman did not take it seriously. Contrary to the belief of some, John stated, HI don't feel that the businessman or the working man was hurt at all by the freeze. He added, It's unfair that some corporations are being allowed un- reasonably high price increases while others have been held to as low as a 4 W Wa raise under Phase 2. Voluntary price and wage stablization would work better than govern- ment control. People resent being told exactly what to do, expecially by the federal government. It makes them feel that the government is taking too much control from the people, John concluded. Dorm Councils The academic year 1971-72 saw a dramatic change occur in the girls' dorm, Chiricahua Hall. For three years residents of the dorm tried desperately to have dorm hours changed, stated Irene Smith. The girls had to sign in every evening at ll except for a few occasions when there were activities on campus that did not end until later than that. It was through the hard work and persistence of all those in the dorm that we are now being allowed to check out anytime before 8 p.m. and check in by I2 noon the next day, remarked Irene. Irene added, It's great being regarded as an adult. Also it's very convenient to check in at 12 and out again at l2:0l. ,....-we 1 at I -V all s i ' 4 I V f -e , ' - ,if 's f , 1, e.- W., ., 5 - I ' ., I 5 Ji H ,K I I. 2 'Q ' e ' 'fi 3 - ,ve . .. 2 5 X 1 i I .r A ll' Y A C A iw. , H i Q. Here Tom Willis shows the visitors how footprints can be help- ful in apprehending the villain. It seems that the trend to hate a cop continues. Police Fraternity Sponsor Dewey Tally commented, It appears with the social change and unrest today that some believe the only visual representative of the government, who many believe is the cause of all ills, is the policemang and their aggravations are taken out on him. 1 When asked how police are checked to make sure they are doing their job correctly, Mr. Tally offered, You mean how the police police the police? He continued, In the police departments there is one division known as the Office of Internal Affairs. Here citizens or other policemen can bring their com- plaints about an officer. The personnel of this division then very carefully examine the officer in question. If the complaint is found to be true, proper action is tak- en. Ifthe charge is false, it isjust dropped. About plain clothes men, Tally remarked, These 1 XC - it H, ' rf-.3-,gl . 1 . it all . y . rfirii-'P A it fi V A 1 W e it mt, 1? ft . .3 I , : . Theirjob is, for example, to check out witnesses of a burglary and examine clues which might lead to similar crimes so as to find the sus- pects and eventually the one guilty of the crime. Getting an answer about narcs was not easy. All Mr. Tally would divulge' is that there are two types, the one who leads the officers to the scene of the crime and criminal and the one who actually performs the bust himself. Tally terminated with, I donit want to give away too much. The subject of education of today's policemen was al- so discussed. Mr. Tally stated that emphasis is on pro- fessionalism. Where years ago the officer had to be a huge, perhaps all-muscle-little-brains person, the small, well trained person now has a chance for police work as 60 hours or an AA degree is required by some depart- ments, while in others as much as a bachelor's degree is asked for. . -,. 1, ..- Club officers Tom Long, vice-president, Tom Willis, president, Terry Metzenbaum, ICC representative, and Terri Owens, secretary, pose for apicture before one of their meetings. clubs and organizations
