As the year rolled along there was a lack of funds which necessitated budgets being cut leaving some departments with zero dollars while others remained in the thousands. Frank Marcell, student body president, remarked, g'The smaller dorm enrollment along with the bond payment being more than doubled are two major reasons. Frank stated that everyone was correct in believing that no funds had been allotted to the art, drama, and music depart- ments, which removed virtually all possibilities of art and drama productions. With Cochise being a community college, Frank contend- ed, 'tln this realm, Cochise is not meeting their responsi- bilities tothe surrounding communities. Frank offered, l'The Student Life Committee, along with Senate, attempted to help, but is was out of everyone's hands as the budgets were cut to meet the students' needs. Frank continued, Through the work ofthe Student Sen- ate Finance Committee and the help of all the departments, fair and conservative budgets will be drawn up for next year which hopefully will eliminate the problems that have faced senate as well as everyone else in the past. 2- M ii- 1: -1 if , 1 fwasii fi E ll 5 'FJ i Z it - A, ., .3 . Dave explained, We did not have enough money to offer the kind of entertain- ment students wanted, so the only way to have such things as rock concerts was to charge some ad- mission. When confronted about the admission charge, Dave retorted, I feel the students got the bad end of the deal. Dave concluded, There was very little partici- 'S pation on the part of the students at the activities we did have, so the lack of success of the activities falls on the student body.
