Mr. Mel Engelstad, wanted for commercials Maybe there's some value in TV commercials after all. Mr. Mel Engelstad, business teacher, reminisces, From my office between classes one day, I could hear mixed voices and laughter in the adjoining classroomg but I didn't pay any particular attention. Upon walking out and joining the assemblage of stu- dents, there was a noticeable lessening of conversation and laughter, to the point of unbelievable silence ema- nating from sagging, open mouths. Then came the explanation! Students, turned sleuths for thejob at hand, were trying to pinpoint the one among them whose presence was so profusely filling the atmos- phere with fragrant oriental perfume. It could be Mr. Atkinson still doesn't understand, but here is his situation. One of our team members was a switch hitter who usually batted left-handed since the pitchers were usually right-handed. Late in the season we were tied 1-1 going into the last of the ninth. As our switch hitter came up to bat the opposition replaced the right-handed pitcher with a left- handed pitcher. At the same time our switch hitter moved to the other side of the batter's box. The pitcher delivered, the batter connected, and a long drive was sent out through center field. Our switch hitter, apparently dis- oriented, ran to third, headed for second, first, and finally home, arriving the same time the ball did. The umpire signaled 'safe' and our switch hitter untied the score. We lost, 0-I. 123
