During the four years our class has been together we have gained many friends and memories that will forever remain in our hearts. One of our most unforgettable memories is our Junior-Senior Prom with the theme In a Spanish Garden . We have decided to extend this to La Fiesta for our yearbook theme. We hope that the guidance and knowledge that We have received during our school years will make us better citiiens in our community. ' JSP I Q. It will now be your lot to move into this life, realizing that privilege means responsibility, using every gift you possess for the good of your country and the welfare of your fellowman. We are confident you will excel in this task, just as you have here in school. RAYMOND R. STAYER, D.D.S. A high school diploma is the basic requirement for any- one who hopes for advancement in in- dustry, who anticipates entering the pro- fessions, or who is concerned with a fuller understanding of national and international affairs so that America can maintain its position of leadership in a world which is threatened by corn- munistic threats and ideologies. I congratulate you on your present accomplishments and trust that you have acquired both the will and the determination to continue your educa- tional pursuits beyond the high school level. John P. Since the students had pre- viously attended several different schools, our freshman year brought many new and exciting experiences. Our sophomore year was a very profitable one. With the help of Mr. Hoffmaster, our class advisor, We made and sold thousands of quarts of soup throughout the school year. The checking of coats at basketball games also provided us with additional funds. The officers elected for the 1956- 1957 term were Thomas Shirk, president, Dale Fisher, vice-president, Barbara Hulshizer, secretary, and Roberta Mowrey, treasurer. During this unforgettable year, we chose our class colors. Our charcoal grey and white jackets were then ordered. This year provided for the first of our annual Christmas parties. The class had a most enjoyable time in the Denver Fire Hall. Another memorable activity was the fishing trip to Indian River, Delaware. The year 1957-1958 was another great year for the class of '59, The officers elected for our junior year were Terry Scheetz, president, Dale Fisher, vice-presidentg Janet Hatt, secretary, and Roberta Mowrey, treasurer. Mrs. Kilkuskie was our class advisor. On November 23 our class play was held. The Able Miss Cain proved to be a very successful performance. Once again, we had a Christmas party in the Denver Fire Hall. We also sponsored a dance on january 4 in the school gym. On May 9, the annual junior-senior prom was held in the high school gym. Everyone had a lovely evening In a Spanish Garden dancing to the music of the Tillman Fisher Orchestra. Follow- ing the prom, we attended Club Calico at the Ephrata Legion. Our big year came only too soon, for our class became closer as the years went by. Dale Fisher was chosen as president, Craig Kegerise as vice-president, Janet Hatt as secretary, and Roberta Mowrey as treasurer. Mr. Gensemer was our class advisor for our senior year. The white rose was chosen as our class flower along with the class motto, By Our Efforts We Hope To Rise . Selling refreshments at football and basketball games provided us with money for senior activities. We sponsored a dance on October 18, and on October 23, we had a Hallowe'en Party. Although the weather was cold, we had fun on our hayride held on November 29. The third annual Christmas party was held in the Denver Fire Hall on December 26. On January 31, we sponsored a dance with the theme of Winter Wonderland . The school dance band provided the music. March 7 and 8 proved to be very successful evenings for the class of '59 when The Atomic Blonde was presented in the school auditorium. The Memory Hop , our last dance, was held on April 4. Songs of the past along with the present provided our dancing entertainment. Our memorable trip to Washington, D. C. took place on Friday, March 20. Highlights of this pleasant trip were tours of the White House, Bureau of Printing and Engraving, F.B.I. Building, Art Museum, and the International Airport. On May 8, the seniors once again took a day to visit New York. We toured the United Nations Building, saw a show in Radio City Music Hall, cruised the Eastern and Hudson Rivers, and toured the Empire State Building. Sayonara proved to be a beautiful theme for the annual prom held in our honor on May 22. We lglanceill to the music of johnny Slote. Club Calico , held in the Ephrata V. F. W., concluded t e ig nig t. The speaker for the Baccalaureate Service held on May 24 was the Reverend C. Nevin Stamm, with the Reverend Elias Bressler and the Reverend W. E. Waybright assisting in the service. Com- mencement, our final high school goal, was held on May 29. The speaker for Commencement was Dr. Gilbert D. McKlveen of Lebanon Valley College. We, the class of 1959, have many pleasant high school memories. We will always remember our years together. CLASS MOTTO By Our Efforts We Hope To Rise.
