To the Class of '57: In the not too distant past only about 10'Z: ofthe pupils of high school age were enrolled in the high schools of the country. Today approximately 80'Za enter high school, but seldom do more that 4595 remain to be graduated. The goals of secondary education should be set at a level high enough to meet the needs of all groups of students, whether they be for college preparation, for entry into business and industry, for the mentally retarded, the physically handicapped or for the gifted students. We are meeting the first two of these goals in a satisfactory manner and it is most encouraging to note that much prog- ress is being made at the local, state and national levels to meet the latter needs in the not too distant future. When this is a reality, we shall then have approached close to the basic philosophy that educa- tion should be preparation for life and citizenship for everyone at all levels of intelligence. john P. Board of Directors ROW 1: Raymond Stayer, Warren Althouse, Carl Musselman. ROWQ: Richard Oberholtzer Charles Gockley, Wilbur Glass, Harry Showalter, Warren Leininger. These are the men whose duty it is to formulate our school policies, plan for the future needs of the school district and see that the schools run efficiently. They try to keep the teachers, parents, and students happy, and at the same time, meet state qualifications for the schools. The seven men that compose the school board have as their President, Carl Mus- selmang Vice-President, Raymond Stayer, Secretagz, Pat Althouse, and Treasurer, Harry Showalter. This organization meets the first Monday of every month. 6
