My ' WWW In the year of 1944 ezght shy and sllghtly fnghtened chxldren started to school They were Bonn1e Crownover Jay Jones Kathleen McK1bben Delbert Oldham Robert Parks Susan Swango Ronald Taylor and Marge Stoneberg Through trlals and tr1bulat1ons these exght have stuck together and formed a fr1endsh1p 1n thelr twelve years of school that w1ll last forever Jay Jones and Delbert Oldham proved to be very valuable to the school ln sports Del as the athlete and Jay as manager Jay d1d part1 c1pate 1n track Kathleen and Marge brrghtened the school wlth the1r mus1cal talent Both have lovely vo1ces as well as ab1l1ty to play many mstruments Susan and Bonme were actlve 1n gxrls' sports extra currlcular act1v1ty as well as speech league and essay contests Robert belng more car m1nded than sports mmded d1dn't part1 c1pate 1n any sports outslde of football There he proved to be a valuable asset to the reserve strength The second year of grade school brought us the gay frxendly Dlck Putz1er from Glenwood Four dash1ng young gentlemen Jolned the group 1n the th1rd grade to add many memor1es to our school days ' They were W1ll1am Phelps Fred Stephens Glenn Young and V1rg1l Young Bud came fromArkansas Fred and Glenn ln and around Eugene whlle V1rg1l came from Glenwood Gerry Farmer came to us from Cahfornla 1n the f1fth grade and helped make our sports more eventful Carolme Hall Jomed us 1n the s1xth grade to add humor laughter and good w1ll to the s1xth graders attendmg Coburg Grade School Carohne came to us from Spr1ngf1eld Catherme Hamxlton Jolned us 1n the seventh grade completmg the class unt1l the f1rst of our h1gh school years She attended Harr1sburg Jon Bowerman and Frank Cooke Jomned the class to start the new exc1t1ng adventure of gomg through h1gh school wzth us Jon left Roose velt m Eugene and Frank Calxforma to Jom us 1n our Freshman year Jon was noted for hxs track ab1l1ty whlle Frank was 1n great demand Navy Then 1n our semor year the boy of all boys Joxned us the humorous and darmg Duane Hooker Because of h1s ab1l1ty 1n wr1t1ng he won many awards and recogmtlon for h1mself and the school for h1s poetry and essays Thus the graduatlng class of 56 leaves the past behxnd, and must now turn to face the future 5- ,M N.-fs' '.'..L I A 'A , l l I for art work. BETHEL CLEANERS 818 PBCIIIC Hlghway North D14 6633 FMMW I come teanng clown the sk1 Jump at Mt Hood and go sa1l1ng out 1nto space I look down and see a traxn pufflng steadlly up the mounta1n The engmeer waves and as I look I see that lt IS V1rg1l Young an agrxcultural engmeer, br1ng1ng a tram load of farm products from Del Oldham's 50 thousand acre farm 1n the W1llamette valley Then I fly past a large buzldmg I catch a ghrnpse of Bud Phelps busmess admxn lstrator, dzctatmg some letters to h1s secretanes, Kate Ham1lton and Annetta Amerson As I come past a gas stat1on I see Ronald Tag' fllhng a beautmful gold Cadmllac w1th premmm gasohne Then from the 1ns1de of the stat1on comes m1ll1ona1re Glenn Young, who 1S checkxng up on hxs many stat1ons Passmg a beauty shop I see world famous beauty operators, Carollne Hall and Kathleen McK1bben preparlng Susan Swango and her horse Cherrle for the Nat1onal Horse Show A race track comes mto v1ew and I'm Just 1n t1me to see Duane Hooker tearmg down the flnal stretch of the Indxanapohs speedway at 675 m1les per hour to w1n the race for h1s thlrd stra1ght year Then passlng the Ram stad1um In L A I see D1ck Putzxer pro all star make the key block wh1ch sends h1s team to v1ctory and a man on the oppos1te team about 40 feet 1n the a1r From there I pass the telephone company where Marge Stoneb g surrounded by a maze of wlre, IS sk1l1fully handlmg all these calls of the New York exchange Then I see a strange looklng automoblle gomg down the h1ghway After gettmg closer I see that It IS Fred Stephens and Jay Jones tear 1ng down the road testmg out the1r latest automob11e Lurkmg around the next curve 15 State Patrolman Bob Parks, who w1ll probably g1ve them a chance to try the eff1c1ency of thelr mventzon I then come to an enormous play ground one of the many founded by Bonn1e Crownover for unfortunate ch1ldren Then cru1s1ng past a large naval base I see Gerry Farmer and all her 11ttle Myers gomg shoppmg As I settle down to earth again I know I have made a very long Jump for everyone IS cheerlng and runmng toward me Thenl feel a damp cloth w1p1ng my persp1r1ng face Just as I am bemng awarded the trophy I awaken I have fallen out of bed aga1n and the dog 15 hckmg my face to wake me up Q . .. .
