Gabriel and Joey Named Mr. and Miss CHS Joey Parra has been a cheerleader for three years at Cobre. She was head cheerleader her senior year. Other honors include senior princess for the 1972 Winter Ball, Who ' s Who, and Girls ' State. Joey was active in GAA during her three years at Cobre High. Gabriel Chanez was active in football and baseball. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Who ' s Who.

Randy Foster Wins VFW Contest Second Time The Voice of Democracy contest, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was won for the second time by Randy Foster. Second and third place winners were Sally Cardenas and Delia Lopez, respectively. During class time, contestants taped their speeches which were later aired over radio KSIL and evaluated by local judges in Silver City. This year the contestants visited the state legislature in Santa Fe where they were introduced to the House of Representatives by State Rep. Thomas Foy and to the Senate by Lt. Gov. Robert Mondragon. They also toured the museum, visited with Governor Bruce King and many other legislators from throughout New Mexico. Sponsored by the Bayard VFW, the participants were honored at a dinner last fall. Lori Ahrens and Olga Casarez were hon- ored by the Hurley Kiwanis Club for their outstanding leadership in Safety Council. Lori held the position of secretary and Olga held the position of treasurer. Cobre Students Select Boy And Girl Staters Chosen as Boy and Girl Staters for 1973-74 were Bobby Espinosa, Julio Jimenez, Raul Martinez, Richard Perez, Timmy Perez, Mike Puentes, Lynford Wilson, Patty Flores, Sandra Udero.
