National Council of Teachers of English Names Four Junior Girls The National Council of Teachers sponsored the N.C.T.E. award which gives public recognition to the best English students in the United States. The nominees were: Gayle Dowding and Sheryl Parker (left), Frances Gomez and Dolores Sandoval (right) as alternates. The nominees wrote on subjects of their choice and an Im- promptu piece designated by the N.C.T.E. department. Cobreites Recognized In Science Fair Mike Bates, senior; repre- sented Cobre at the Regional Science Fair in Las Cruces. His project, a magnetic Resonance Spectrometer, won first place blue ribbon, first trophy for the senior division, and Mike also received a bond. The district fair was held at Snell Junior High. At the State Fair Mike won a $500 scholarship. A Navy Cruise award and a trip to the National Fair was also presented to him. Dolores Chavira, sophomore, received a recognition ribbon on her project entitled Germi- nation of Various Seeds. 85
