Accumulate High Grade Averages, SOPHOMORES: Barbara Woodruff, Susie M. Dominguez, Tessie Flores, Martha Holguin, Judy Hill, Joe Rios, Patty Glover, Karen Walker, Melba Merino, Fay Connell, Thyra Sparks, Mary Valeric, Kothi Willis, Maria Parker, Laura Wallace, Shirley Beatty, Francine Grijalva, Mike Strain, John O ' Loughlin, Bryan Bortlett, Tommy Foy, Stonewall Smith, and Billy Hendrick are the top ten per cent of their class scholas- tically. Optimist Award Given for Second Year Roberta Ranyan and Ivan Apodaca received the Optimist Award. They were chosen by a faculty committee on: leadership, grade average, and acceptance among students. The Optimist Club recognizes youth appreciation in the most outstanding students. Seven schools were repre- sented and each school ' s representative gave a detailed account over radio station K. S. I. L. on activities going on in their school. 81

n GENERAL FOODS Homemaker of Tomorrow Patricia Fletcher was the future homemaker for Cobre this year. She obtained the highest percent- age on her test which oil senior girls took on De- cember 7. Patty ' s test paper was then sent to compete with those from other schools in the state. 4-H Winner Emily Smith was the New Mexico Food and Nutrition Win- ner of the 4-H Club trip to Chicago, sponsored by General Foods, where she met the star of GREEN ACRES, Eddie Al- bert. Emily attended many banquets during her stay in Chi- cago. Her biggest thrill was attending the ball at the Arogon. Students Work Hard to Achieve Honors Junior Rotarians Junior Rotarians selected by the faculty of Cobre High attended many Rotary Club luncheons giving reports on school activities, etc., during the month each was cho- sen to be a representative.
