Volleyball Sportsday Girl ' s Athletic Association, one of Cobre ' s most active organizations sponsored several major school events: the first Powder Puff Football Game, a Vol- leyball Sportsday and a Fun-nite and Carnival. They financed a trip to the State Track Meet at Portales for the first girls ' track team to be organized at Cobre. G.A.A. members participated in many sports including volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, and track. The club is sponsored by Mrs. Murial Tarry and the officers were Rosemary Marquez, president; Rosemary Carrillo, secretary; Maria Parker, treas- urer; and executive council members, Genevieve Munoz, Esther Gomez and Mary Santamaria. The G. A. A. Fun-nite fea- tured a slave auction; here Jon Miller and Sandy Wood- worth hove just purchased Mr. Ron Darnell. A Cakewalk, volleyball tour- nament, hootenanny, and various fun booths mode the Fun-nite a success and help- ed finance a trip to the Girls ' State Track Meet. Fun-nite activities and other financial preparations weren ' t all that was necessary for the track trip. Girls worked out dally in order to build up team strength. g — - - 111

FJA is a club for students interested in journalism and maintaining at least a B aver- age in publications. The installation of offi- cers and initiation banquet was held in Silver City. Officers are: Mary Sue Evatt, president; Barbara Biebelle, vice president; Ray Donald- son, secretary; and Penni Wright, treasurer.
