Y Y Y Y 0 . . . . , , , . . : . . . - ,4:F.F.A.l,2,3,43 . 7 Y Y Y ' CLASS HISTORY On a bright sunnv morning in September 1946 a group of forty eight well dressed but fri htened freshmen entered Coats High School Mrs Ozella Adams and Mr Ray Coon were to lead us through the year as co sponsors Special occasions of the year were our Halloween party and the Weiner roast which we all enjoyed After a short vacation thirty four of our original number returned as sophomores We had overcome our fears and soon participated m many act1v1t1es Although we had lost many classmates our sophomore year was packed wlth fun We were glad to have Everett Reardon become a member of our class Mrs Gladys Phillips was chosen as our advisor The followmg offx cers were chosen class president Tommy Johnson secretary Margie Barefoot reporter Doris Messer The Junior year was a strenuous one for every member of the class We lost a number of members durmg the summer but we welcomed to our class Claudius Byrd We elected Laura Pope as our class president As Juniors we worked early and late on the plans for the banquet honor mg the outgoing semors Th1s was the first ever held in our new teacher age and we regard it as one of the most beautiful and successful ever g ven Another hlghhght was our Junior play No Bride for the Groom directed by Miss Clare Thomas and Miss Gerry Cobb Eloise Pope, Tommy Johnson, Bobbie Adams, and W1ll1am Ragan had the leading roles Laura Pope had the honor of being chosen chief marshal There was of the traditional rose cham for the senior Class Night program Time marched on and in the fall of 1949 our greatest dream was ful filled for we were now considered dignified semors Miss Mabel Lynch became our sponsor The following officers were chosen class president, Tommy Johnson vxce presldent Patsy Grimes secretary EIOISC Pope treasurer, Sylvla Ingold reporter Laura Pope Wadeford Wlllxams brought honor to our school when he won a trxp to Kansas City Missouri as a representative of the Coats Chapter to the National F F A Convention September 26 1949 will ever be remembered as a red letter day the lives of the semors For it was on this occasion we ordered our class rings The sponsoring of our Year Book was one of our most outstanding achievements This was accomplished under the capable direction of Mrs Gladys Phillips Patsy Grimes Bobble Adams Anme Laurie Clevenger and Emily Turlmgton were chosen on the SPOTLIGHT staff This hlstory records but some of the achievements As we approach the end of our Journey we vush to pledge anew our loyalty to Coats High School We express our deep appreciation to the faculty and to our beloved parents for thelr encouragement and patient understanding throughout the years Doris Messer, H zstorzan I I I I Y ' - ' .- .U I s o 33 Y - . .
