'e often show it,- or so the teachers say, By being a bit too loud. During the last four years Basketball has been our favorite reaknessg Without tournaments to brighten the schedule School would have been unbearahle bleakness. Don, Preston, Joe, and David will Turn their job over to the.underclassnen And hope that they can maintain the record As well, or better, th n it has heens a Paul Miller loved to relax in Study Hall, To make up for him, Russell alvays studies. Freda Veese is neat and small, Verna, Virginia, and Jean are her buddies. Ruth Watson, small but sfeet. Has Violet and Gay as her boson pals, ' A trio like that te Selden nest. Lena and Lorena are tvo of our best cookie. 'hen they are married they uon't need recipe books. Ruby Saffel who studies so hard, Is valedictorian as her reward. when wedding bells are ringing , If Mary Haryaret, Betty, or Pauline are left behind It's a sure thing the boys are blind. Rosie Nethhen will be missed the most of all For her merry laugh resounded even in Study Hall. Oven Hawkins last, but not least in love, Is also one of the groun discussed above. Altogether re've been a jolly band and Our care free high school days have been grand. Uwe build the ladder by which we climbn Therefore we must leave these days behind. Graduating is a privilege we wouldn't sell - - The seniors of '50 must now bid you farewell. -----Ruby Saffel '50 i I 5 5:37 i 51-lv. fa--if 1. 531 ' 4132 . V, . 'V-til! We elected Joe Yeager for our Presidentg Pauline Silvester, Vice Presidentg Jean Phillips, Secretary, David Harvey, Treasurer, Pauline Silvester and Mary M. Girard, Cheerleaders. We chose for our class colors orange and black and the sweetpea for our flower. Our motto is Wwe build the ladder by which we climbw. Thirty-two of us returned in our second year with determination to make that year a successful one. Don Skidmore served as our President assisted by Eugene Marco as Vice Presidentg David Harvey, Secretary, Ruby Saffel, Treasurer, Pauline Silvesterfand Virginia Brown as Cheerleaders. Much to our regret our class had dwindled - . considerably by the time we reached our juniorfyear with only twenty-four remaining. We sold Christmas Q cards and presented a play nAlonE Came Kilroyn in order to make money for a junior- enior Banquet which ' was held in the City Restaurant. That year we began to acquire more dignity. ' This year, 1950, fthe biggest and most important year? our enrollment was twenty-three but during the first semester we lost Freda Fitzwater and in the second semester Margaret Brown dropped out. Our class officers are Ruby Saffel President' Preston Scott, Vice-President, Pauline gilvester, Cecretaryg Ruth Watson, Treasurer, Pauline Silvester and Virginia Brown, Cheerleaders. During our four successful years we have participated in all school activities, the most important, of ' course, Cto us? being basketball. Joe Yeager Don Skidmore, David Harvey played on the varsity team three years. Other activities we have taken part in are Honor Society and Student Council. The events we are now looking forward to is the Junior-Senior Banquet, Graduation Day, and Senior Day which will be the second of June. 11 Aff 3? ifiiflrfig..-Q,-'-,e4mf- -vf-,a wigs,-,3,322?1--fzv:g11,4gg1'1'y my Q' - 1 .1 1.1, Q-g-.:.. . my ., ,r , .- rr , ., -,-. , ,- ,745 .ggi-zggggjvir g:'li,v:ff3,M, N::.5S,4-,g'k.j,:.:. , , f.'Q'5Z:, .1:3f,tg,,i,i-I?-F:- 1 ' A . ,. - , .1 -:-if-.E - -V' - I fl q ww if:v5v.Q1Q.:+ 'iasvui iwf fw- 5. ass f :laws m:+wisnz i, .faq-255195 :mai las:-Y A ' . Let's go over to see its the Senior Class of USOW of Coalton High. The first thing I notice is our big pilot, Joe Yeagerg he says they have come back from Mars. Joe's ambition always was to fly a fly- ing saucer. Uho is this coming out of the door now? Why, it's Gay, Violet and Violet that old CHS than be machines. Why, David guess he had to , and Ruth. Gay is telling Ruth she would rather be hack in good tossed around in one of these is bringing his Mule Train out. I take it with him on the trip. He said he would rather ride-his Mule Train any old time than a flying saucer. There comes Rosie, loughing as always. I sup- pose she is having as good a time as she did in good old NEON. A I wonder why Mary Mar aret Girard is running toward the High School? Could it be because there is a basket ball game and Deister is there? A Uhat's holding up the crowd? Thy it is Lena! Lorena is telling her about some reducing pills that she took to make her so slim. And there is Donald Skidmore. They say he is employed by David Harvey's Mule Train. Who can that he? Thy, it's Preston Scott, our special mechanic on the flying saucer. Who is that boy over there? Uhy, it's Russell Bodkinsg he is the one rho always worked in Sociology Class. ,,x wx, ,J . Uwhat are they?W inquired-0Ven?' NWhy,U says Paul, NThey are hub caps off the Mule Train.U Could that be Betty Demotto getting on the Mule Train? She is going back to her home on Bar- bour Street where she and Carman reside. I wonder why the flying saucer always lands on Main Streetg it must be because Pauline has a special corner meeting with---you know who. Ruby is going back to her home in Kingsvilleg she must be tired because this is her first vacation since she was appointed to the U. N. three years ago. Uho's that red-headed girl handling those foot- long hot dogs? Uhy it's Freda Teeseg she considers that he hobby. , That artist over there is Verna Powers paint- ing a picture of Joe Yeager's flying saucer. , Last but not least, come Virginia and Jean. Virginia is telling Jean how she conducts business for the UThis and That Soup Company.U Jean is plan- ning to open Duffy's Tavern in the near future. The Seniors of H500 are now gathering around the Flying Saucer for another little tripg with them is their sponsor, Mrs. Nason, and their principal, Mr. Goddin. The group is singing UEnJoy Yourself.U well it is getting late and I am getting sleepy, but I just want to say that the class of USOW says, NFarewel1, and good luck to you a1l.W 'x -V.,--. The sponsorship of a systematic series of assembly programs stands undoubtedly highest in this year's accomplishments. Through this, our student body was given the opportunity to hear several good speakers, much good drama and several good musical numbers. Much good school talent was discovered in the giving of our assembly programs, and much ggod experience was gained by those who participated the programs. In Cctober-November we sent two delegates Arlene Skidmore and Juanita Linger, to Jackson s Mill to the state Co-Government Association convention. They brought back to our student body very interesting reports of their experiences. Under the supervision of Rosie Nethken, chairman of the candy committee the Student Council has cleared to date aporoxlmately b45.00, Candy was sold every noon hour and at all home basketball games On March 31, we sponsored and took care of all arrangements incidental to the presentation by the West Virginia Wesleyan dramatic club of the play USuppressed Desires', under the direction of Mr. John Do Shavers Other projects such as clearing up of proper channels for having class parties was successfully handled by our student council this year, Projects under consideration are magazine selling campaign, commencement activities, and spring social activities.
