N 5 . S 3 N I 0 R C L A S S The Senior class of '48 started out with an enroll- ment of thirty-three. Our officers for the Freshman year were: Erseldent - Kaul Huffman V. Irvs. - Virginia Jeran Sec.Treas.- Esther Girard 4 Cheer Leaders-Mary Gutehall, Margaret Leudin Ann Moran Sponsor - Mr. Weber . Motto - Onward to Success Colors - Red and White Flower - White Carnation We came back the next year with many students missing. We have carried on the work which we as Freshmen started Our boys took an active part in athletics. Our officers for the Sophomore year were: President - Esther Girard V. Pres. - Paul Huffman Sec3Treas.- Mary Gutshall Cheer Leader-Mary Gutshall Sponsor - Mr. Johnson In the fall of 1946, seventeen students enrolled in the Junior class. Virginia Ueran was president, and Esther Girard vice-president. Margaret Loudin was soc- retary-treasurer, and Mr. Martin our sponsor. The Jun- ior class presented a play,uAunt Samanthy Rules the . Reostn. We sold Christmas cards to raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet on May 16th. Catherine Rowan, Virginia Joran and Jessie Nethken were elected members 'of the Student Council. Carmen Ross was outstanding in school athletics. Fourteen of uv .f,'n rar manior year of '48, We chose Joe Silvester for president, Carmen Ross for v1ee-presl- dent, Francis Maroc, secretary and Gene Hedrick, trees! urer. Virginia Jeran was our class cheer leader and Mrs. Mason our sponsor. Carmen Ross was the star basketball player of the year. He ranked third in the central state with a record of 582 points for the year. Three seniors were members of the Student Council. Helen Miller was president of the organizatieng the gther, two members were Jessie Nethken and Catherine ewan. ,J

.ruuxoa ctlss we, the Juniors, entered Coalton High with an enroll- ment of thirty-three. Mr. Weber was our spo sor. we a lso gold and blue for our colors. the carnetion for our flow- er, and 'All for onr, one for all'-as our motto. A party constituted the social events of our Freshman year. Our officers were: Betty Shipman, presldentg Hazel Phillips, vice-presidentg Mary Kelly, aecretaryg lrnestlne Hathaway. treasurer and Betty Shipman and Mary Lou Loudin, cheer- 68 Srl. We entered our Sophomore year with tlenty-seven members. That year the girls had one of the leading teams in girls' basketball and were runners-up in the lnter-class tourne- ments. Three of our boys played on the first five and another as a substitute. Our boys' team won the inter- olass tournament. Erneetine Hathaway and Hazel Phillips were elected to represent our class on the student ooun- cll. We had a class party in March, and nent to Seneca Caverns on May eth. On this same trip we visited the til- tration plant of the Elkins City water system. We attri- bute our success in our Sophomore year to the guidance and advice of our sponsor, Mr. Johnson. Class officers for that year were: Hazel Phillips, president: Tom Guire vice-presidentg Tom Moran, secretary and treasurer: Mary Lou Loudln, cheer-leader. we had twenty-four members in our Junior year. In three years we have gained three members and have lost four. Three Juniors were elected to the Student Council: they are Mary Kelly. Loretta Miller, and Joe Ross. Three Jun- iors were on the varsity basketball teamg they were Tom moran, Joe Ross and Viator Masterjoe. we had a party on April Fool's night and a picnic in May. The Junior girls mon the sportsmanship award at the inter-class tournament. Many Junior names were observed on the honor roll through- out tohQ years we have sold Christmas cards and raised money for the annual Junior-Senior banquet, and presented a mystery comedy 'The Ghost of Roaring P1nes'. One member of our class is now in the army and another is a naval veteran ot World War II. Under the leadership ot our class spone ser, Mr. Martin, we feel that this year has been a profit- able one. We look forward with pride to being the Seniors of Coalton'Hlgh School in '49,
