B A S KLE T B A L L Another basketball season has come to a close. Of the games scheduled, the Varsity team won three: the Junior High team won all but four, and the Rc- sorves won two. Throughout the season and at the tournament the team showed the sportsmanship that has come to be a part of Coalton High in the past year. Though several games lost were only by a small margin, the boys bore no grudge, but came back fighting at each encounter. In Carmen Ross, Dick Goddin, Bob Miller, Tom Moran, Jos Silveeter, Victor Masterjoe, and Joe Ross, Coalton has some of the finest prep athletes in the school's history. They have done their best to bring Coalton its share of victories. B A S K E T B A L L I N' R E'V I E I' On December 21, 1946, Coalton High opened the basketball season on the Elkins High floor with a 47-23 loss to a veteran Parsons High School team. The game was played as a benefit for the Infantilo Paralysis Fund. In the second test of the season the Alumni defeated the Vario ity 58-46. Weston, Thomas, T-V, Parsons, and the Alumni took us into camp in the early part of the season by large mar- gins. The Elkins 'B' team, Beverly, Flemington, St. Augustine and Belington High had a much harder time taking the improving Coalton High team. The losing streak was snapped with a victory over Pickens High School on the Coalton floor 49-38. In a return game at Coalton, St. Augustine was de- feated by a margin of four points, 33-29. In the last game of the season the fighting Coalton team defeated the Little Ten Champions, Belington, by the score of 51-46. Revenge was sweet, Coalton hav- ing lost to the Little Ten Champions earlier in the season, the last minute 47-44. The sectional tour- nament saw Coalton High losing to a taller and more experienced Beverly High team, in the first round by a score of 44-23. Captain Cannon Ross was honored by being selected on the all-tournament team.
