WIE S T V I R G I N I A C I.U B Vest Virginia clubs are desigaed to teach boys and girls more about their home state. All grades from the fifth to the eighth pursue this study. In Coalten High School the seventh year pursues the 'Pioneer' course. The eighth stud- ies the 'Junior Citizenu course. There are six units in each year and these occupy the students' club period throughout the year. In our own club we spent time in research and study of maps, reference books, newspapers, and magazine ar- ticles dealing mi th West Virginia. 4-H ctus p The Coalton High School 4-H Club was organ- ized for the year 1946-47 with L. Bernard Johnson as leader. The membership consisted of nine boys from the seventh and eighth grades. The club se- lected as its community project the testing of soil in a number of gardens in the community. The projects selected by the members were: Clyde Goff - - - -Family cow. John B. Johnson- -Forestry, Home Beautifica- tion and Electrification. Ray Bartlett - - -Wild Life Conservation. John .Toe Shannon -Rural Electrification. Donald Roberts - -Gardening. Bill Goddin- - - -Rural Electrification. Eugene Elmore- - -Gardening. Richard Shreve - -Family Flock. Norbert Harvey - -Handicraft. Werber Wegman, 4--Ti Club Agent, arranged for the club members of 44 :ls school and others, s. trapping dsmenrfm-rm-tin..
