During three years of our training in Coaldale High School, our nation was bearing the heavy cross of war. Only a few of the members of our class participated in the war, in service. However, all of us are partici- pating in the peace that has followed victory. We, the Class of 1946, are ready and willing to do all that we can to pay our debt of gratitude to those who effected this peace. ln the record of our activities which follows, we have tried to show the adequate preparation that has been given us to enter our new lives. Martinec Tech. 4th Grade Michael Polansky tttt These members of our faculty who are now veterans of World War ll have been an inspiration to the Class of l946. We were happy to welcome back to Coaldale High School this year, Mr. Harvey, who served in the Pacific theater of war, and Mr. Martinec, who served in the European theater of war. Mr. Polansky has not yet returned to Coaldale High School. We extend to him welcome and best wishes, although we will not be here to greet him in person. Seniors Class We assembled for the first time as Freshmen in the Coaldale High School auditorium on the morning of September 8, 1942. ln that beginning year of our High School careers we contributed very slightly to the activity of the school year. ln our Sophomore year we understood more clearly the meaning of AIma Mater, and our school spirit was enkindled. Our participation in school events increased con- siderably. ln our Junior year we played an outstanding part in the numerous events that were listed on the calendar of the l944-45 term. Notably successful, socially and financially, were our Turkey Hop and Prom, ln May of our Junior year we were happy to cele- brate V-E day, and we looked forward to the day when Victory would be complete. At the end of that year, James Polansky and John Trubilla, members of our class, entered the service of our country. The opening day of school of our Senior year, September 4, 'l945, was entirely different from any of our previous opening days of school. War was over. The shadow that had hovered over our first three years in High School was removed. Our Senior year was a pleasant and successful one. The outstanding event was the Senior Class Play, Almost Summer, presented April 24, 1946- As we leave Alma Mater, we take with us cherished memories of our High School days. History Joseph Zahora . . After a close first half, with the Raymer men leading at 6-O, the game went on with the Tigers putting across three more touchdowns to grab a 26-O win. 'Ir Coaldale 53 - Mahanoy Twp. O Our next game was expected to be a close affair, but instead it became a marathon for the Tiger speedsters. Right after the opening whistle, on the first play from scrimmage, Zenko took a lateral from Bubernak and scampered 60 yards for the opening score. He crossed the goal line three more times to lead the Tigers to a 53-O win. 'A' Coaldale l6 - Minersville O The third game of the season gave the Tigers a victory over a strong Minersville eleven. The boys from Miner outplayed the Tigers, as the statistics show, but the speediness of the Tigers' backs spelled the victory. The final score was l6-O. 'A' Coaldale O - Tamaqua 7 After three straight wins without yielding a score, the Tigers themselves were held without putting one over. This defeat was registered by the visiting boys from Tamaqua, by a 7-0 score. 'A' Coaldale 6 - Nesquehoning 26 The Tigers had a chance of winning their next game as long as Kacik was in the lineup. When he was removed from the game, the Tigers went into a tailspin and took a 26-6 shellacking at the hands of the Maroons from Nesquehoning. 'A' Coaldale 24 -Summit Hill T9 Our victory over Summit Hill in our next game was a thriller. After trailing at l3-O, Zahora took charge and paced the Tigers to a close 24-l9 win. ir Coaldale 6 - Mt. Carmel 7 Coaldale next lost a heart-breaker to a power- ful Mt. Carmel eleven by narrowly eking out a close 7-6 decision. The never-say-die Tigers battled hard to the finish. 'lr Coaldale 6 - Kulpmont T9 ln their next encounter, the Raymer-coached Tigers were hit by the wildcats from Kulpmont. The Home-towners were too powerful for our team, and sunk our colors to a l9-6 defeat in plenty of mud. ir Coaldale 20-Mahanoy City 6 Coaldale Tigers took their fifth win of the season by rebounding after two successive defeats. The win was registered against the Maroons from Mahanoy City. 'A' Coaldale 6 - Lunsford 6 ln the traditional game with the Panthers from Lansford, neither team could score more than once, and neither converting, the game ended a 6-6 tie.
