Our Prom, on the evening of May 28th, crowned the 1941- 1942 social season and proved most successful, socially as well as financially. The long anticipated fourth year arrived. We were now to enjoy the privileges reserved for the seniors. Our class was represented in every activity. The boys monopolized the field of sports. As our iourney came to an end, many of our class mates left us to offer their services to Uncle Sam. The Class of 1943 is indeed proud of these boys. Undaunted by the chaos in which our world is engulfed, we prepare to leave our Alma Mater, and the fond memories of High School days. During the football season this musical organization, with its intricate formations, put on a stirring display of band marching and added much pep and vim to the cheering. The band should be commended highly for its share in making our boys, ioining the armed forces, realize how keenly the faculty and students of Coaldale School District appreciate the willingness of these young men to pay any sacrifice to preserve Our Way of Life. The band accompanied the inductees to Tamaqua where a farewell was given with inspirational, martial music. May our band continue to have success in the future! DRUM DIAJIIR Firsf Ro Marshall, L. The record of the patrol proves how well its members have per- formed their duties. Not one traffic accident has occurred since the organi- zation of the patrol in l939. We wish to express our appreciation to these members for the orderly system they have devised to conduct the students safely across the streets of our town while going to and from school. These boys and girls perform a two-fold duty. They manage the students during air raid drills and fire drills. Under their skillful direction the drills have been very satis- factory. The drills, es- pecially the air raid drills, became more fre- quent as the school year progressed, but this in no way lessened the effici- ency of the management of the students selected for this service. The National Honor Society has as its members, students who are out- standing in scholarship, service, leadership and character. These mem- bers ofthe class of 1943, who have been elected to the National Honor Society by the faculty, deserve hearty congra- tulations. The national scope of the Society adds to its high significance and unusual prestige. The annual Christmas play, depicting the Nativity of our Lord, was presented to an appreciative audience the evening of December 23rd. A child, in her dream, traverses the broad expanse of time to witness the birth of Christ. The cupidity ofthe innkeeper, the cruelty of the Roman soldiers, the patient sufterence of the shepherds, distress the mystitied child. The Christ Child, asleep in the manger, moves the austere warriors. They disregarded their odious errand and fall upon their knees seeking God's compassion. The entrance of the Angelic hosts, singing their praises to God on high, brings the stirring performance to an exultant end. The play was under the direction of Misses Helen Hoben and Mary P. McElhenney. Q5- Miss Helen M. Hoben I I M NSTREL End . Rimm, R. Polansky, A. Diaz, J. Pislak, J. Gursky First R . Oransky, R. M. Macenka, H. Pavlik, H. Firkal, E. Revtyak, J. Paskosky, M. Marin, L. The title Priorities Revue of l943 was apropos of the time. The soloists, endmen and chorus provided entertainment that was amusing to every member of the audience. Following the Minstrel a skit entitled Violet Moves ln was presented. This portion of the program added to the humor of the evening. The Revue demonstrated a variety of talent. IDPERETTA Hollywood Bound, an operetta dealing with the trials and tribulations which beset a young man on his way to the top, was presented with much success to capacity audiences on the evenings of April 26th and 27th. The large cast consisted of a mixed chorus of over fifty voices, dancing groups and many soloists. Particularly outstanding were the ballet scene and the Whistling ln the Dark chorus. Each person in the cast did his share in con- tributing to the success of the production. Miss Helen M. Hoben Mr. T. M. Lithgow Miss Mary P. The topics selected by all the contestants were timely. Our High School contestants were William Charles and Florence Sneddon. The grace of their delivery, the exactness of their pronunciation, and the interesting subiect matter of their themes made our orators very pleasing to the audience. We were proud of their presentations. The orators showed that they had received excellent preparation and counsel from our coach of oratory, Mr. L. J. Melley. Mr. Leonard .l.
